LCD Display, Gaming and Changesin Resolution

hey everyone:

just had a quick question regarding LCDs and gaming.

I was wondering how a display is affected when one veers away from an LCD's native resolution while gaming. Is the display significantly affected? If at all?

I was looking into purchasing an LCD (probably 5ms, 20"-22") but I wanted to be absolutely certain that they arent a hassle with regard to what I want to use it for.

So, let's assume that an LCD has a NR of 1024x768. I want to play a game at 1280x1024 or even 1600x1200. Could I do such a thing without the display being negatively affected?

I dont know too many ppl that are gamers with an LCD around here so any help from all of you would be great.

Thanks guys/gals.

Re: LCD Display, Gaming and Changesin Resolution

pharoah is correct - you simply can't push a monitor beyond its maximum resolution. For LCD's, the maximum resolution is the "native" resolution. No matter how hard you try, you won't be able to push your game higher than that resolution. However, most 20" - 22" LCD's have resolutions of 1280 x 1024 or higher. It shouldn't be a problem if 1280 x 1024 is okay for you.

What are your system specs? You may find that 1280 x 1024 is about as far as you can comfortably push your system anyway.

If you do have to run at a lower resolution, it will do that with out a problem. The picture will look ever-so-slightly less crisp, but it will still look good.

Re: LCD Display, Gaming and Changesin Resolution

Nice rig!

Actually, there's only about one person on here (*cough* ebackhus *cough* ) who still likes CRT's (of course there will be a few others as well). Most of the gaming community prefers LCD's. I use two 19" LCD's with my system - just the one when I'm using SLI, of course. Once you get down to 8ms, you really can't see any ghosting. I'm even happy to use a 12ms LCD, though other people aren't. And since you can now get 5ms LCD's at reasonable prices, there's absolutely no reason to stick with CRT's.
