BSOD occasionally during a program run
Hi Tech support forum,
TomcatLX here and I seem to have a problem. I periodically and randomly get the Blue Screen of Death when I run this one particular game called Rakion. I never had the problem before until last week. I tried a system restore but it momentarily solved the problem. But has reoccured while I using the program called Ventrilo. I was running through old posts on this forum to see if I can find a solution. I found that one of your moderators has a link to a program called SENSORVIEW PRO. Here are my SENSORVIEW STATS: HD0 42 degrees Celsius 108 degrees fareinheit 46 % memory usage When running rakion for a while HD0 46 degrees C and 118? degrees fareinheit with 6x % memory usage I run a compaq presario V5000. Had it for about 6 months. Are those readings safe? How much of a value on sensorview shall it be deemed DANGEROUS? Also whenever I get the BSOD, The error that reports it after reboot states that it is a DEVICE DRIVER STOP. Perhaps something installed in my computer is broken and is causing my computer to reboot every once in a while while i play this one game? I had a laptop harddisk fail on me with BSOD before. My roommates laptop died just 1 month ago. I just hope its not the time of death for my laptop yet. :( |

New update:
I have also gone through the game forum and found a similar error with a different game. There has been mention about a "security update 917422" issue. I will try that and hope that will work but can someone give me further explanation on this? Whether this is a good resolution? as well as any alternatives just in case it doesn't work? This of course in addition to the questions to my first post. I know this is a lot to ask for and I'm terribly sorry for the hassle. Any answer is appreciated. Thank you. |

the vent bsod actually had text but it would restart in 5 seconds. (Please note that it occured right after I left rakion and this happened today for the first time. This means that it may still be Rakion related.)
the bsod of rakion would just have compressed white lines (smaller text?) that is not comprehendable before restarting in 5 seconds. (Has been happening for the last 3 days.) (My theory on the unreadable text is that I run the game in 800x600 mode and my desktop settings is 1024x780 so that may explain the unreadable small fontlines) Based off of my situation and few other game related posts that involve 1) recent spontaneous problems occuring between the period of last november and now 2)a "device driver" being stopped or problems with "device drivers" I have come to assume that it may very well be this Windows update problem. I have already installed the hotfix and hope it is the resolution. Thanks for the input and the software regarding the sensorview, I will keep in mind what I shall keep my temperatures at. Even though it is above 40 degrees celsius, I only get the bsod off Rakion. Another game called SPACE COWBOY ONLINE which uses ALOT more cpu and memory doesn't seem to BSOD crash for me no matter how long I leave it on. But of course I like Rakion and I can't let BSOD stop me. :( If in the course of the next few days that I have no problems, I will inform this forum so that any gamers who have experienced this strange problem with certain games will have moderators who would have the EXACT answer to give to them. :) Last edited by tomcatlx; 01-21-2007 at 10:00 AM. |

turn off the auto reboot so the computer freezes on the bsod
control panel/system/advanced/startup and recovery settings untick the auto reboot box the bsod message should point directly to the cause

Thanks, I will do that. I will test out my game again in a few days.
Also I found the dump files for past bSOD crashes. Is there a way to view the .dmp files so that I can show you what I exactly had as a problem? (I found them in %SystemRoot%\Minidump) Also, is it better to keep the write debugging information at "small memory dump" or can I have it write in "complete memory dump" form? Keeping in mind that I will delete the "complete dump files" when I accumulate too many. Last edited by tomcatlx; 01-22-2007 at 02:10 AM. |
