Playing from an External Drive

If I install a game onto an external drive, will there be any lowered performance issues via playing it on the internal drive? I want to do it, but I would think there would be lag or something.

there could be a performance loss that would really depend on the game i think.the more intense games probably would lag.older games probably would not

pharoah is correct. There would be a sizable performance drop. I recommend that you don't do it, unless you have no other choice.

The only real performance issue you'd see is in loading the game up and loading the levels. Once in-game the performance should be smooth, except for games with bad engines like HL2 where they load stuff on-the-fly (sounds in this case) which may cause a bit of FPS drop. I've played a lot of my games off my external drive and haven't had any real issues, go for it.
