can't even load cs:s

i need help bad. when in steam i try to load counter-strike:source. when the screen when it says launching counter-strike:source the screen gose away and it says hl2.exe has encountered a problem and i didnt even go to the games main menu. plz i need help!

Hi.
Have a run through the 'Common Game Issues' link in my signature.
I have a feeling a re-install will help as i recently had the same problem myself, the only difference being mine did get to the menu screen, then crashed.

I know steam is a pain to re-install games (since you have to update them again) but sometimes it's the only way.

Let us know how you go.

ok all i had to do was update the direct xand thats it. thanks for the help
