widescreen is causing problems

Ok i just got a new widescreen for christmas and medieval 2 total war. and now whenever we try to start it it says MEdieval 2 total war has encountered an unspecified error and needs to close. Then it goes black and shuts down what is the problem? [I have a samsung 22 Inch widescreen lcd flat] I already went through the nine steps ]

I feel really stupid. the probelm was that I didnt plug all the cords in.
