My System

I cannot run Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. I meet all system requirements. I've updated to the latest drivers for my graphics card. I have the latest DirectX version. I've installed the latest patch. Installation went perfect no problem. I have plenty of room on my 750GB Seagate Barracuda HDD. I plenty of RAM at 2GB. The CD is clean with no scratches. When I try to launch the game I get the Ghost Recon startup window. Then it seems to start and the screen turns all black and finally reverts back to my desktop. I've tried shutting down all programs running in the background by using msconfig and rebooting. The game does not run. Can you please help?

For the first guy, chance are you need a graphics card upgrade, I had the same problem with my Geforce 2MX, now with my Geforce 7300gt its all good. I think you need atleast an Geforce FX/5. You can get good deals on the Geforce 6 on Newegg.com right now.

I doubt very much that I need an upgrade. I just built my new computer from scratch. I have a new Asus P5B Deluxe mobo with PCIx. The graphics card is a BFG 7900GT Overclocked with 256MB of onboard memory. I also have Corsair XMS2 2GB of DRR2 RAM. My processor is a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 Ghz. My HDD is a Seagate Barracuba 750GB perpendicular recording.

Please do not Hijack others' threads. It's rude. I've made a new thread for your problem.

I'm sorry about hijacking other people's threads. I was searching for some help and couldn't find anything for my game so I took the closes thread available but I guess being new to this that would be considered rude. Now I understand a little bit more how this works and it won't happen again. I'm learning as I go. Sorry for the inconvenience.

No problem. We just like to keep issues seperate to keep better track of them.

Have you tried reinstalling it? Sounds like something didn't stick right. Also, is this a legit copy of GR?

Yes, I have tried reinstalling the game and yes it is a legit copy of the game. Since then I've installed another new game I've had for some time called Riddick Escape from Butcher Bay and I'm having the same problem. I've started a new thread on this and I hope I'm doing this right and not stepping on anyones toes. But, since you've replied to me maybe you can help. I've detailed the problem in my new thread but I can do it here also if that's okay. Let me know and I'll explain what I have so far. It seems to be a problem with my new graphics card.

what version of driver did you install? The latest is very buggy. I think the latest driver you can trust is 93.71. If you have a 94.whatever, uninstall it, restart, and install 93.71. See if that fixes things.

Well, it's a long story but here goes. I called BFG which is the Company that manufactured my graphics card and they recommended that I update to the latest driver. I went to the nVidia website and followed the instructions for the latest drivers which was 93.71. After installing these drivers my game Ghost Recon and Riddick did not launch. These are two games that will not launch. There was no change. I called BFG again and explained to them the error messages I was getting. The first error message that comes up when I try to load the game is "This application requires graphics driver support for OPenGL 1.3 or higher." My BFG GeForce 7900GT OC 256MB supports OpenGL 3.0. The second error message that comes up is "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library. Runtime Error! Program:....Studios\RiddickEFBB\System|Win32_x86_SSE2\SbzEngine.exe." "This application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information." Now when I explained this to BFG they told me that because it was a Microsoft error that I should contact Microsoft. So I contacted Microsoft and because my WindowsXP Pro is an OEM that I purchased on Tigerdirect.com they said I could not get any technical support from them unless I paid a fee of $45. I decided to go for it and paid the $45 because most of the computing I do is gaming so if my new computer won't play the latest FPS games what good is it to me? I finally got to speak to a technical rep from Microsoft. We spent 5 hours on the phone non-stop trying everything he could think of. We even did a conference call between myself, Microsoft and a BFG tech rep. At that point the BFG tech rep told me that the 93.71 drivers was just a generic driver for the 7000 series graphics cards and that I should install the 84.56. After hanging up with BFG I was still on the line with the Microsoft rep. We both tried to find these drivers on the nVidia website but they weren't there. So I did a general search of the web and found the 84.56 drivers on another website. Come to find out these are beta drivers and nVidia probably doesn't support them. So we went ahead and downloaded and installed these drivers. We had no problem with the installation but there still was no change in launching the games. So Microsoft recommended that I request an RMA for a graphics card replacement. So I called BFG the following day and explained the whole situation and was given an RMA and to mail out my graphics card to them so that they can test it to determine if it's defective. If it is they will replace it and then I can call back Microsoft and explain to them that the card was defective, that is if it is, and if it is defective Microsoft will refund me the $45 back because Microsoft was not able to rectify the problem. Microsoft charges $45 only if they rectify the problem you're having. As of this reply I'm still waiting for a pre-paid mailing label from BFG to mail out my graphics card. Then it'll take about a week or so before I can get back my graphics card. Thanks for your reply. If there's anything about the error messages that I received that you feel may be of help please feel free to do so. Once I get the pre-paid mailing label I'll mail out my graphics card and my computer will be out of commission until I get the new or repaired one.

seems odd that the card would be defective, but as long as it's already being RMA'd then go ahead with it and get back to us if it doesn't fix it.
