Games freeze after ~15 minutes of playing
Problem:
My games will run fine for about 15 minutes then I will get long instances of lag.My latency will skyrocket and my FPS will go down to around 4. I ran spybot search and destroy, adaware, did a virus scan, turned off firewall, and installed Omega Drivers. I still can't fix this problem. I'm running a very old computer but this problem is relatively new. P4 1.5 ghz 512 ram ti4200 card Thank you in advance. |

Hi, and welcome to TSF.
Firstly, could you please give us a bit more info about your problem: What games are you trying to play? What are the full specs of your system (read "Posting System Specs" in my signature)? Are the games you are trying to play online or offline, or some of both? After playing for 15 minutes, when the lag starts, what happens if you quit the game and then reopen it? Download SensorsView Pro (link in my signature), and post the temperatures it reports.

System Specs:
PSU:250w PSU CPU: Pentium 4 1.5 ghz (P68 Williamette, A80528) Motherboard:Asus P4B-LX RAM: 512 SDRAM (133mhz per 256mb stick) Videocard: Nvidia Ti4200 AGP 4x HD: C drive 15gb capacity, 1% free space.FAT32 D drive 55gb capacity, 22g free space.NTFS I'm not sure of brand. OS: Winxp Home Edition SP1 (I tried installing SP2 but it gave me a few errors) -- CPU Temp: 62 degrees Celcius. Games like Day of Defeat and World War II Online- games that I've been capable of running before without this problem. When I disconnect from a server or restart the game, the cycle restarts over again with decent performance and then the problem. I tried unplugging my modem for about ten minutes which has worked with connection problems in the past but to no avail. -- I've been thinking of reformatting this piece of junk but its so old I cant find the disks! Thank you in advance.I hope its something that can be easily "cured". :) |

it seems to me as if your cpu is very very hot. id suggest cleaning out the case of dust with some compressed air. after that applying new thermal paste to the hsf.
also try freeing up your c: drive as that is really crammed and could also cause some lag

If my calculations are correct (i think so
) you have about 150mb of free sapce on your C: drive. Windows needs at least 500mb to function properly (if memory serves). If this is where you have windows installed then this is your problem, follow Fr4556 advice and free up some space.
