XBOX live connection via laptop to LAN?
Hi All, this is what I would like to do.
Connect to XBox live using a hardwire cat connection from my Xbox to my laptop. The laptop also has a wireless nic which connects to a wireless router. In turn the wireless router connects to a "central" computer which connects to the internet via usb cable modem. Other computers (wifi and hard wired) connect to the internet via the central computer. The central computer has 3rd party ICS software. Everything on the network has a static IP. Complicated but it works very reliably... can I use my Xbox on this rig and how do I do it? cheers Dins |

You would have to enable ICS on the laptops wireless then connect the xbox i think via a crossover cable to the lan port on the laptop.
not entirely sure about if this will work because im not sure if the xbox can obtain an ip through the ICS on the laptop

You'd be MUCH better off directly connecting to the router via a wireless or wired link. ICS has a history for problematic behavior and could cause problems with the rest of the network.

Can't I give the XBOX a static IP? I can't use ICS becuase it wants to change the IP on the laptop to 192.168.0.1 which is already allocated on the LAN to the "central" computer through which all other computers connet to the internet. I just wanted to use the laptop as a wireless realy point. I use a third party ICS substitute (Wingate) which is much more reliable than XP's version. ebackhus So is there hardware that I can use to connect to my wireless router that I can plug into the NIC on the XBOX? ie The is no PCMCIA slot or USB hole I can stick a wireless adapter into. BUt I need a wireless connection to get to the router because of geography. Thanks for your help so far |
