xbox controller

Ya know what I'm having a hell of a time doing? Trying to get CounterStrike Source to play with my xbox controller (XBCD). I did the soldering of a usb to a xbox controller. Anyway, on my emulators it works great. This game though... It can move look up and down but NOT side to side. Does anyone have any tips or comments about his problem? It'd really help me out. I mean, I know using the keyboard is better (as everyone says) but I'm a console gaming person. It would just be easier for me to do ya know. So any help would be appreciated. Unless the game does not support it. Well, Thanks again guys.

how is the controller being recognized in windows ? i mean maybe some of the axis arent supported in css ... so possibly there lies ur problem. im not sure but cs1.6 does have joystick support so see if the controller works in that

yeah the left and right axis don't seem to work in css. Is cs1.6 a new version of cs? Maybe different drivers? naa... I don't think so. Anyway if anybody else would know of anything about it then please tell me. Thanks

cs1.6 is older. it had joystick support so thats why i thought that it might work.

CS1.6 is the predecessor to CSS. 1.6 was a MOD of Half Life and got Uber popular so Valve took it and wrapped it around their Source engine to create CS:S.

never played 1.6, only source because I got it when I bought HL2, GOTY edition.

i think its just an incopatibility issue with css ... its 1. not meant to be played with a controller 2. doesnt have the joystick option like cs1.6

If you're willing to pay a little cash the new 360 controller works with both PC and 360 inherently.

yeah, but will I encounter the same problem with CSS if I buy the 360 controller? I know if I buy the one issued from microsoft, It will have all the drivers and everything already on it. So thing is, will the 360 controller work with my pc. Oh, and thanks again.

I believe so, they designed it so they would only have to sell one game pad for both the 360 and PC. If you notice MS is bringing the console and PC closer and closer, you'll so be able to play 360 gamers from your PC.

yeah actually with windows vista ... xbox360 gamers can play vs pc gamers ! you know what this means (as mentioned once in pc gamer) is that i can crush console kids with my mouse and keyboard in every fps there is !

but still i dont think css has the support for the game pad

I love crushing PC kids on the console. My brother can usually beat me in most PC FPS games, but when I bring him to my world on consoles I pwn.

lol Because the 360 controller already has a USB port, MS supported, and is generally a better pad. You can save the hax for another time.

alright... I know its been awhile, but I bought the 360 controller and well... it doesn't work right. I mean I can get it so that the left thumb stick will aim and the right will move but I can not get it so that the left will move and the right will aim. This is counterstrike source by the way. Anyway, I try and go into the properties for the controller but I really can't modify anything. And calibrating it doesn't do a thing. If there is some way to switch the properties around for the left thumb stick and the right thumb stick... Any ideas? I have actually had better luck with the modded controller because with the XBCD software I have been able to switch the properties so the right thumb stick acts as the left and the left as the d pad (because it can't look up and down). Though I can move my right thumb stick every which way now, I can only move my person (left thumbstick) front, back, left, right and NO diagnol. AHHHHHH!!! MAN I NEED SOME HELP. I have been playing with this for quite some time. Thanks guys, and I hope to hear from you soon.

ha, well as you know I did buy the xbox 360 controller. I loaded the Microsoft drivers and it worked, but not correctly... So I tryed something different. I tried using my drivers (XBCD) that I got for my modded controller and put them on my xbox 360 controller and so now I can modify every single button and joystick property. The Microsoft drivers BLOW! Anyway, it still wasn't working correctly. So I found online that if I open a xgi file to configure the controller for me then it should work fine. SO YES, everything works now and actually I took back the xbox 360 controller and used my modded controller and just loaded that xgi file on there. ANYWAY, all this trouble was in vain because ya know what, you all are right, the keyboard and mouse are WAY better. Oh and Fr2665, I'll play you :o). Thanks guys.
