Steam games Such as Counter Strike Source crashing with sound loop
My system specs:
Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz Radeon 9800 PRO 640 RDRAM Well, for some reason games I play on steam have started locking up. Everything was working fine, until yesterday I was playing Counter Strike: Source, and everything totaly freezes. The game locks up, maybe refreshes a few times, and just stops. I hear a constant sound loop, and It seems like everything freezes, I can't get to task manager or Alt Tab out. I have to totaly reboot. I can play for a few minutes, or sometimes as little as a few seconds before this happens. I have tried to download the latest version of DirectX, Sound + Video drivers, but nothing helps. Stuff just keeps FREEZING and locking up for no reason. So..help me out :( |

Make sure all your fans (case, CPU, graphics card) are free of dust, unobstructed and spinning. You may need to blow some compressed air around the fans and heatsink.
Download Sensors View and post a screenshot of its readings from when you first switch on, and another after you've run Counter Strike for a few minutes. We need to see the temperatures and voltages. Also, open up your case and copy down the details from the label on the Power Supply Unit.

Alright koala, I'll do the Sensors view thing
I'll post and say that I've noticed that in the game Company of Heroes, instead of playing normaly, the game just flashes black, and I can't really see...I don't know, but maybe these problems are related? Something in my computer maybe? :| |

The HD0 temperature is for the hard drive. I don't think the 9800 has a temperature sensor, so you may not be able to get a reading off it.
Post 2 screenshots from Sensors View. We need to see the difference between idle and stress values for temperatures and voltages. It could also be a failing PSU. Check your system's power requirements here (add 30% to the total to allow for PSU inefficiency) Open up your case and copy down the details from the label on the PSU (amps for +12V, +5V etc)

sounds like a lovely ATI VPU reset error. what ati drivers are you currently using ? this usually occurs when its heat related or just a driver error (ATI drivers FTL)
I had this everyday with my 9500pro modded to the 9700 and finaly took the card put it in a box and let it sit there for 5 months. then put it back in and it worked for what ever reason. i figured it was the drivers and or maybe a reseat in the agp slot will help.

Well, I have been screwing around with my drivers lately. I've re-installed them quite a few times because I had an error when they wouldn't show 2 resolutions correctly. Everest says I'm using
Installed Drivers ati2dvag (6.14.10.6635) So, you say that I should take the card out and put it back? |
