Have you installed the latest DirectX and graphics drivers?

Does your system meet the game's minimum requirements?

Post your full system specs and graphics driver version.

Re-download DirectX, it is a problem with the Demo. Many people had that bug.
I'm pretty sure re downloading DirectX will solve it

the fully game may not be any different. Is your system beefy enough to handle it at good detail? If you used the auto-detect option (if applicable) you still may need to scale some details back in order to acheive good frame rates. Auto-detects have never set a game right...ever in my experience.

Auto-detects will either set the settings too high because they overestimate (and want to give you that much more glitter regardless of FPS) or they mis-detect your chipset and set you to the lowest settings possible.

Your best bet is to set the settings as conservatively as possible then slowly ramp up until you find your personal sweet spot between FPS and shinies. 30 FPS is considered the "minimum sane playable FPS for... err... FPS'es).

By the way, make sure to update your video card to the latest stable drivers. Look at our NVIDIA Drivers or ATI Drivers threads for your respective card.
