Exclamation Running Heroes of might and magic V.

My machine is beyond dated, as a matter of fact, I've been kinda leaching off of others to play newer more computer intensive games by sneaking onto to their machines while they're asleep.

I can't wait any longer; I may be broke as hell, but It's just to much! I have to be able to run heroes of might and magic V, it's simply to addictive to only be able to play once every so often.

I can't build a new comp for at least six months. I plan on using my current one as a workhorse after I get the new one, but until then I need somthing cheap, to get a quick fix. I'm not going to pretend that I actually know what the hell I'm talking about as far as hardware aside from a general idea of what each componant does. I'm more of a software person.

Here are my system specs, It's my understanding that what mainly matters is the ram and Graphics card, But I'll list it all just incase the info is needed. My processor for example is probably fine.

2.08 Ghz AMD Athlon Processor
512mb SDRAM Memory
120GB Ultra DMA Hardrive.
Nvidia GeForce 4 XM, 64MB DDR

It's a factory made comp, Hewlet Packard(HP).

Alright, final notes....

My budget here is 100-600 bucks. Though my prefured range is around 300.
I play mostly strategy games, (Galciv2, Heroes of might and magic, ect.) which aren't usually graphics intensive. But I also wouldn't mind being able to play Battlefield 2 if at all possible.

Recommendations? And before you even post a reply; Thanks in advance.

My System

Welcome, rudest.

You're right - that system is extremely old. To be honest, any upgrade on that system will just be a waste of your money.

To make it worth your time and money, you're going to need to look at a new:
CPU
Motherboard
RAM
Video Card
Power supply

Fortunately, you can get all of the above for under $600 – here are my recommendations:

CPU – AMD Athlon64 3200+ Socket 939 - $99

Motherboard – Asus A8N-SLI Socket 939 - $120

RAM – Corsair 1Gb (2x 512Mb) XMS DDR-400 - $102

Video Card – eVGA GeForce 7600GT 256Mb - $170

Power Supply – Enermax FMA 535W - $98

Total Price: $589

The above system should play all the latest games fairly well. The SLI motherboard also allows you the option to add a second graphics card later on for a big performance boost at very little expense.

you're going to ahve to also buy a new OS since it will be illegal to try and use the one from your last computer. You can get OEM XP Media Center edition for around $120 with purchase of hardware and also XP Home for about $90 - $100 with purchase of hardware.

Other than that, Indoril has a VERY good system listed for you right there!
