Rakion NvCpl.dll error

hello! My problem concerns a game called Rakion. I've just downloaded it and installed it, and everything seems to be fine, but when i try to play it, i click on it, log in, and when the game tries to load, i get an error:

RUNDLL
Error loading NvCpl.dll
Access is denied.

The game doesn't close, but if i click ok on the error, it keeps coming back straight away. I've tried things people have said, e.g a registery cleaner, i used ccleaner, and that did nothing, i've also tried checking for viruses, there was nothing, i've heard it could be something to do with an nvidia graphics card? no idea though :O Thanks!

Re: Rakion NvCpl.dll error

Hi, welcome to TSF

The error is probably related to the nvidia control panel icon in the system tray. There are a couple of other possibilities, but this one is most likely.

What version number is your graphics driver, and what graphics card do you have? You can get this information by going to Start > Run > dxdiag > Display tab.

If the driver date is older than Sept 2009, download the latest driver from http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us. Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the nvidia drivers. Reboot, disable your antivirus (to prevent conflicts) and install the driver you've just downloaded. Reboot again to complete.

Re: Rakion NvCpl.dll error

This is the driver you need. GeForce 191.07 for XP (05-Oct-2009): http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_191.07_whql.html

If you still get the error after updating the driver and rebooting, it could be that Rakion has overwritten a Windows system file with an older version. Let us know how you get on with the driver update and we'll take it from there.

Re: Rakion NvCpl.dll error

ok installed the driver, and tried the game, the error still comes up but the game is playable, when i select my character and start playing after the game has loaded, i can click ok on the error and it won't come back, but sometimes this error will also come up:

Rakion.bin - Application Error

The instruction at "0x010307b4" referenced memory at "0x010307b4". The memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate program.

And as it says, the game goes off, if i click ok i can start the game normally again but no idea where this error has come from, possibly it would have still come before, as before i couldn't play the game because of the first error which came up.

Re: Rakion NvCpl.dll error

The Rakion.bin error appears to be quite common and is not related to the previous NvCpl.dll error or your nvidia driver. The only solution I can find on the Rakion forums is to uninstall and reinstall the game.

Re: Rakion NvCpl.dll error

Download VBRun60sp6.exe from here, install and reboot. This replaces any system files like Oleaut32.dll that Rakion might have overwritten.

Technical details: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290887
Quote:
VBRun60sp6.exe is a self-extracting executable file that installs the latest versions of the Microsoft Visual Basic run-time files that are required by all applications that are created with Visual Basic 6.0. The files include the fixes that are included with Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 6.
If you're still having trouble after installing this file and rebooting, go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. If Microsoft .NET Framework is listed, is it version 2 or 3?

If you want, you can subscribe to this thread (Thread Tools menu at the top of the page). If anyone with more experience with Rakion problems posts back with any other ideas, you will receive an email. Good luck.
