WoW Problems

I just installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my friend's computer. I got WoW to to run however, it freezes up and sometimes even freezes up the entire computer. I have changed the video settings to the lowest recommended and it is still doing this. It worked perfectly fine under Windows, however the computer got a virus or something and wasn't working at all... So I installed Ubuntu.

Computer Specs:
Memory: 494.3 MiB
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.66GHz

If anymore information is needed in order to help me resolve this issue I will gladly get it if possible. Thanks!

Re: WoW Problems

Hi,

Let me see if I can lend a hand here. I am wondering why you installed 8.10 instead of 9.04? Also, I am guessing that you are using wine, if not can you tell me what program you are using? I would make sure that if you are using wine that you have the latest version.

Cheers!

Re: WoW Problems

Well, I had installed 8.10 because that's the latest disk I had. I actually installed 9.04 last night on his computer. I am using Wine, yes. After installing 9.04 and tweaking some more of the game I finally get it to work decently enough to fully play it which was by changing a setting in the game for the mouse. I'm not sure why this worked the way it has but it worked. The computer could benefit from more RAM however. He's only running about 512Mb, if that. Any other advice you may have is welcomed and appreciated. This is all I've done and know so thanks for any help you may still be able to provide.

Re: WoW Problems

Hi,

I would agree that a little more ram would be good. Running WoW on 512mb is ok but there are times when it can hog a lot. I would say to just make sure that your friend keeps things up-to-date and they should be fine.

Cheers!
