medieval 2 total war online issue

Hey guys i need help with my game. The problem is everytime i try to get online it says i have an invalid CD key ive uninstalled and typed the CD key again but it just does the same thing, so if you have any idea whats wrong

where did you get the game from? is it a reliable source?
does the CD key worked before?

well i bought it from kmart (lol) it has never worked i mean it works but i just cant play online
