Xbox live wont sign me in after i log out

Ok well i'm really trying to sort this problem out on my own but with no success. I can log in when i get home from school to play on xbox, but sometimes my wireless connection just breaks or after i log out and eat dinner etc i cant get back in. It describes the problem as my IP address could not be found, although it is automatic so it shouldnt be causing any problems. My setup is a wireless linksys card plugged into my computer and a ethernet cable running into my xbox, i have only just started having this problem and i dont know why. The really weird thing is that my local area connection (xbox live) says it is connected and has a speed of 100.0 mbps but somehow my xbox live wont sign in. I have tried changing IP addresses and have had no success. As you can see im terrible at networking so i dont want to change any settings on my router because it might mess all my other family's internet as well. Here is what is says after the test connection has failed:
Can't obtain an IP address from your router or modem
Your router or modem may not be automatically assigning an IP address
On your pc, go to your router configuration web page. Make sure DHCP is enabled and has a large enough address range for all devices on the network.
Also, make sure that your router's MAC filtering allows your console's MAC address or is disabled. Your console's MAC address is 00125AB719B4

Now i cannot check these settings as one; my dad wont let me and two i do not have the router web configuration password anyway. Any help would be appreciated as i am really confused at the moment. I can sign on once each day, but not if i have to go or my internet disconnects randomly which it has been for the past few days. Thanks.

Hello moefy!

Since you cannot check if the settings are how they should be, ask your dad to do this for you. Ask your dad to follow these instructions to check those settings:

Type 192.168.1.1 in your internet browser URL bar. Hit enter.
A username and password box will pop up. If you have not changed the username and password, leave the username field blank and type "admin" (without quotes) for the password. Hit enter.

You can check the required information now.
