ps3 online gaming problems

hows things,
trying to play games such as fifa 09 nd ufc on the ps3 online but the ps is constantly "searching" for other players in ufc,and often fails during games of fifa,other friends dont seem to be having the same problem and i hav put it down to my norton 360 firewall.any suggestions on what inbound traffic i can allow to help smooth gaming?i am using an ethernet cable coming via a standard router.

i have had suggestions such as assigning a static ip address to the ps3,would this help and how?

Ports need to be open for Fifa. What is the make and model of your router?

its a netopia 3347,how do i open the ports?

Setting a static IP for the PS3 would keep its IP address from changing, so it is necessary to set one.
