Peroidic Lag on MMO's

Hello. At first i suspected this problem to be related to a trojan i conviently pick up at about the same time. But after reformating and being confirmed by the Virus/trojan/malware section i am told this is not a any of those.

What i am experiencing is intense lag for about 10-20 second once per minute or just under. This lag has sometimes resulted in dropping from the server.

Curiously this is only online games. I was playing Rome Total war on campaign and i experienced no problems, i jump on War online or Warcraft online and the problem is waiting for me.

I recently reformatted, though the problem was also before i did this.

Any help you could give me would be very much appreicated. Thank you in advance.

Hi player742.
Make sure the games are allowed through any firewalls you have.
If you are using a router, make sure the ports for the games have been forwarded.

Also, could you please post your system specs and ISP.

What level of service do you have with Virgin? Mobile? Fiber?

Do you know the upload speed? In most cases it's about 1/4-1/7 the download speed. For example, I have 15Mb down and 2Mb up.

Re: Peroidic Lag on MMO's

Try running this test for packet loss.
http://www.dslreports.com/linequality (Requires membership but its free)
Click the button "Join Queue". In about 30mins or less you should get a system message popup in the web browser on that particular page. It will give you a result sheet, look though it and see if you have any packet loss or connections that couldn't be established.
Dont worry about the latency on the results as the test server is somewhere in the USA so you will get high latency if your not in the US.

From there many ISPs have a maintenance page on their website and list such things as server or router upgrades and any thing else that may affect a customers connection.

Lastly try unplugging everything that uses your phoneline and try to play your game again, ensure your broadband filters are properly in place and there is nothing connected to your phoneline that bypasses these filters.

If you're running it wirelessly try running your computer hard wired to the router.
