Unable to connect Ps3
Ok so I just purchased a new Ps3, got it home and plugged it in and proceeded to do a network search. It found my router, signal strength was around 60% which considering my 360 couldn't even locate the thing, I was surprised.
So I attempted to connect, entered my WEP key and selected; Automatic = IP Address Do Not Set = DHCP Automatic = DNS settings Automatic = MTU Do Not Use = Proxy Server Enable = UPnP I also ensured that the MAC address for the Ps3 was added to the approved list of my router and that the router still had remaining IP slots to allocate, all of this checked out fine. I saved my settings and tested the connection, only to have the whole thing time out on me and fail to make it pass the IP address stage. I have tried looking over page after page, but am basically swamped and have no idea what will work best. I am using wireless, working with an NTL modem connected to a US Robotics USR5462 router. There are currently; 2x iMacs 1x PC 4x iBooks 3x iPod Touches 1x DS All of which are connecting to the router with no problem, just entered the WEP key and was online. If anyone could help with this problem I would be extremely grateful. Thanks, Nate |

Re: Unable to connect Ps3
Hi Nate and welcome to TSF!
Have you tried temporarily disabling encryption on the router to see if the PS3 can connect?

Re: Unable to connect Ps3
I have and it did not work. The problem appears to be obtaining an IP address from the router as it fails this check. What is strange about it, it is when I tried connecting the PS3 directly to the router with an ethernet cable, it connected straight away with no problems.
It just seems to be connecting wirelessly that's a problem, this would be preferable as given my routers location it won't be possible for me to set up a permanent hard wire connection. I can also rule out signal degradation or anything blocking the connection as my Ps3 is sat mere feet away from the router at the moment with nothing blocking the signal and 100% signal strength. |

Re: Unable to connect Ps3
Have you checked to make sure the wireless adapter for the PS3 is compatible with the PS3/and/or router?

Re: Unable to connect Ps3
I am not completely sure how I would go about finding out, my 360 would never be able to detect the router at all, which I assumed indicated incompatibility. But the Ps3 can see it, it just cannot obtain an IP address.
In any case, I have decided that as it can connect hard wired I am going to invest in a couple of homeplugs so that I can hardwire it from my room. If I have any more issues will post here. Cheers, Nate |
