cant connect to online games

hiya guys, im just wondering if anyone could help me with my problem i have. I dont seem to be able to connect to any of my online games (WOW, Warcraft 3, CS) . ive disabled my firewall and windows defender, ive tried port forwarding, ive opened all the ports necessary for the games. ive tried starting my laptop with only basic programs loaded so no security programs were active. I was able to connect to the games about a month ago then i went to play warcraft 3 yesterday and noticed i couldnt connect and tried the other games too and they wudnt connect either. ive got another computer on the same network and that has no problems connecting to any of the games so its got to be something to do with my laptop. im currently running vista - home premium.

i really hope someone can help as this is so annoying lol.

thanks alot, Craig.

What kind of internet service do you subscribe to? In some cases, you may actualy need to contact your internet service provider in order for them to forward ports to your modem.

Re: cant connect to online games

Okay, do you mean within your local network meaining within your building or outside the house meaning elsewhere on the internet?

PipeX is DSL. Port forwarding may need to be done by them.

I also found this.

Re: cant connect to online games

haha yes ive had my problems with pipex too i can relate to that article.

yer the pc is on a home network and is in the next room to me and is connected to the router by an ethernet cable. im really not sure its anything to do with the modem/ router as ive unplugged the ethernet cable from the other pc (which allows games to connect) and plugged it into this laptop and i still have no success with connectin to games.

Smile Re: cant connect to online games

Okay, so you are attempting a LAN game and it's failing. Sorry for the prior confusion.

Is one of the computers using WiFi whereas another is using a wired connection, or are all of them using wired connections? It's a bit unclear form your posts.

You may have to manualy enter IP address numbers into the games to get them to cooperate.

To discover each comptuer's IP, click Start > Run > IPCONFIG > Ok

This will show your IP like the following example:

Depending on your router, this number may change from time to time. Use the IP of the computer charged with hosting a game to dial the other comptuers in. This may be called "Direct Connect"

On CS this is an example of the code you need to enter into the game's console:
Code:
connect 192.168.2.5

Re: cant connect to online games

no m8 im not attemptin LAN , im tryin to connect to the games online features and they just dont detect a connection. like when i click on WOW it will go to the WOW updater and will say there is a tracker error. When i click on CS it will say it cant find an internet connection so it wont load steam, and its the same with warcraft and diablo 2. its the most annoyin thing ever! lol. i dont kno if theres some setting ive changed with vista or something but i really cant think of anything ive changed, and i havent installed anything recently that would stop these connecting.
