[SOLVED] Patching Problems- WoW
hello, i just got a new laptop. (Gateway FX Nvidia GeForce 8800m GTS on Windows Vista 64 bit.)
i just installed the first CD before the exspansions and it needs to patch.. problem is.. the Patcher only stays at 0% doesnt download a single byte. soo i have tried to ascess this situation and followed multiple instruction on fixing this problem, I am using a WRT54G Linksys Router. 1, Turned off all firewalls 2, Opened ports 3274, 6112, (something like that..) 3, Ran as administrator. 4, Ran in Safe Mode. 5, Enabled Peer-to-Peer 6, Enabled UPnP ___ I am guessing this is something to do with the router. but not sure.. it worked before i got this new router and on my old computer (xp) it worked. soo i went on to trying and download the patch manually from a mirror. it finally finished. and i saved it to desktop. i have no idea where to place the est. 1g file.. so i need help there also. this is really starting to be a pain.. its been days of me trying to get this too work. Thanks. |

Re: Patching Problems- WoW
It's either the router or Vista. First try the patcher in XPSP2 compatibility mode. (right click - properties - compatibility)
Second, try to directly connect to your modem. This may or may not work automatically. I highly recommend turning your firewall back on before you connect directly to the modem. |

I am sure it is the Router, because Age of Conans patcher used to update before i got this new router. |

Click the icon, push ALT+ENTER. Click the compatibility tab. There are a few options that may help...
![]() You also said that the patcher worked on your older system running on Windows XP. I know you did some port forwarding, but I found this elsewhere just in case you missed one: Quote:
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/th...71578553&sid=1 It appears that Vista 64 is not supported for this game according to some people on Blizzard's forum. Could you please check "Start > Run > winver > ok" to see if you have Service Pack 1 installed? |

Re: Patching Problems- WoW
When i press ALT+Enter. It just brings up the usual Program Properties. No Compatibility tab.
I have opened all of those ports. I do have Service Pack 1 installed. I am partially sure that it must be networking because Patchers for other games will not work. The patcher starts up and looks as if it will start download. But after about 10 minutes of 0bytes. It will say "Your computer may be behind a Firewall" Sorry i should of included that originally. But i have tried Opening ports through Windows Firewall, Trend Micro, and The router. I should not have to make a Static IP, because when i tried to set my laptop up to one, it shut off connectivity to my other computer that is connected. Re: Patching Problems- WoW
When you plug into the modem, via an ethernet patch cable... DHCP fails, and you cannot connect?
Please make sure that your NIC/ethernet card is enabled, drivers are installed for it, and it is set on automatic (DHCP) IP and DNS settings. Those dialogs look somewhat like this:

Re: Patching Problems- WoW
Ok thank you for this, it now can be connected manually. But sadly. Still the download is at 0% will not download through blizzard downloader. I also updated the drivers. I have ran as admin, and still nothing.
I have found out that WoW is compatible with 64 bit. I was looking around and many people play with vista 64. Right now, all i need is the game updated and ill be off and running. |

Re: Patching Problems- WoW
When I used to play WoW I rarely used the Blizzard downloader, way too slow.
Download the Warcraft trial: http://www.trywarcraft.com/ The trial is usually fully patched. The trial version is the same as the full release version, just enter your account details when you start the game. You could also use Xfire, an IM client, to download the patches automatically: http://www.xfire.com/downloads/searc...=0&q=wow+patch As to where to put the downloaded file, Blizzard used to change the location on occasion, first try putting in to WoW root directory then run BNUpdate.exe. If that doesn't work then try it in the patches directory or the cache directory. Last edited by koala; 02-27-2009 at 05:57 AM. Reason: removed torrent instructions |

Re: Patching Problems- WoW
Alright thank you for the reply.
I would take lead on your suggestion towards downloading the trial, but i also have The Burning Crusade exspansion. that would need to be Patched. I downloaded the 2.4 929mb Patch, and my game files.. there is no (BNupdate.exe) I have put them in the multiple places through the WoW files. but i am thinking i need some program to Execute and basically connect them to the files. :P andd is there a place where i can download the BNupdate.exe File? ps. Thank you for a reply. |

Re: Patching Problems- WoW
Hmm, BNupdate.exe should be the file underneath BackgroundDownloader.exe.
I'll reinstall the client on my PC tomorrow and see if anything had changed. BNUpdate is the file that "Connects and Executes" the file. Well, it was when I used to play, I'll find out tomorrow when I reinstall :) Last edited by Origin; 02-27-2009 at 06:02 PM. |

Re: Patching Problems- WoW
Dude, that would mean alot. maybe i can finally get this problem fixed.
also, i have seen that the really old patches, Blizzard has just archived them and no longer does the Tracker respond to requests incoming from thier downloader. even though its said to be Peer 2 Peer. idk. confusing eh? also i have noticed that depending on the Date of your Cd_Roms, the WoW disks may come preloaded with different updates. so mine was bought in 2007. and i believe it had the updates justone behind 2.4.0. US version of course. |

Re: Patching Problems- WoW
Downloading the patch now, Blizzard has changed the download location again. It's located at C:\Users\Public\Documents\Blizzard Entertainment\World of Warcraft.
If you navigate to the Logs folder and post the contents of the Download.log file here it may give some clue as to why the downloader is staying at 0% I'll post the exact location of the patch and updater when it's finished downloading, you should be able to move the patch you have to that directory and run it from there. |

Re: Patching Problems- WoW
Looks like you're going to have to download more patches, a couple GB's worth.
Images of the locations: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() You'd think they'd put the patches in the "Patches" folder. Some of the earlier patches use the BNUpdate, others use Update.exe, and some are executable as you can see from the images. Good luck :) |

Re: Patching Problems- WoW
The patches aren't in the Warcraft game folder, if you look at my previous post they are in: C:\Users\Public\Documents\Blizzard Entertainment\World of Warcraft.
Move the patch there, you should find the updater there as well. Edit: As far as I am aware the trial version has the TBC included, it unlocks the content if you have TBC on your account. Last edited by Origin; 02-28-2009 at 11:06 AM. |
