CS Source Latency issue

First of all I am with Optus and have the DSL Direct connection.. get roughly 5-6mb and 650kb speeds.. go back 8 weeks ago I always used to get 20-35ms latency on CS Source in my native WA based servers where I am.. now the 8 weeks ago my latency has increased to 80ms and I have never seen it drop down again since :\.. Any idea's as to what this could be? I've rung Optus but they don't know much..

Any insights into this would be appreciated

DR

Re: CS Source Latency issue

Hey, I had DSL and was playing CSS and my pings were up to 800, so don't worry about it. If you have cable as a choice, you may see improvement if you switch as I did, but it depends on the ISP. Your cable provider could turn out to be worse... Good luck!

Data blocks reserve some space for error-correction data.. which can salvage a partially damaged block. Interleaving increases the chance that noise on the line will only cause partial damage, not complete loss. Thats the good news.

The down-side of Interleaving is that it increases latency! this is because your little (say) quake movement packet is smeared out over several packets before it can be fully sent or fully received.
You may have poor line quality in which chase, your phone company may be able to fix it by testing and adjusting or even replacing your line for a cleaner signal.

There is an online test for this problem, but you may have to wait in line in order to take it.
