All online apps 'lagging'...

OK!

Greetings - this is my first post on the advice of a good friend so please bear with me.

I use several online programmes during my free time; I'm a casual gamer who also works - I do both on the same pc.

I play WoW, use Ventrilo, MSN and obviously explorer as my main programmes.

Up until 3 days ago everything was ok bar the usual lag here and there however for the last 3 days all these programmes have been 'lagging'.

5 people use this pc however and it has been known to suffer various problems from time to time due to bad use.

Main issues: Explorer takes an eternity to load pages; Vent ping goes from low to very high sporradically and WoW lags.

I have come to a stall in fixing it myself - I have cleaned up the system as best as I can, run scans for viruses - yet to do one for spy ware, reset the modem, disconnected the wireless feature in case of hijacking...al to no avail.

MSN runs fine and when accessing programmes via my laptop the connection seems to be ok - is anyone able to shed some light on this for me? Else I fear I will have to break the news to all it's users that it's time to take it back to '0 AD'.

I would appreciate it greatly to have a more expert opinion before I do this though

I'd recommend scanning for Spy/Malware and Rootkits, since they can result in lag, among many other potential consequences. Just my 2cents. Peace.
