Call of Duty 4 Crashing
I've got a Dell XPS computer running Windows XP, a couple months back I guess this problem started and it progressively got worse. Basically I would play Call of Duty 4 and everything would lock up. So I manually shut off the computer with no other choice. Sometimes my computer will lock up and have the same errors occur when it's idle.
I'm running on a Radeon Pro 9800, which is the min. requirement to run Call of Duty 4 and 1 GB of RAM so originally I was leaning towards the graphics card being the problem but I thought I'd post here to really be steered in the right direction. I attached the two errors that usually come after I restart my computer. |

Re: Call of Duty 4 Crashing
Are you getting any blue screens or is it just the errors you mentioned?

Re: Call of Duty 4 Crashing
this happens same with GTA: San Andreas, most of the time it can be security checking ur game for Genuine Software when uploading ur Call Of Duty 4.exe file. The company will give u a replacement files, which i doubt it will work. I tried getting a patch for COD4 and it worked fine. Also most of the time this popup is meaning it is not reading ur ntdll.dll andu can find that by searching in google. The second error it tell that u either have too much paging files being taken by ur computer, and is also slowing ur comp down or an Anti- Virus Software which is hogging ur space of computer can also happen. I use AVG Internet Security 8.0, The Best. U can go to Start--->Control Panel--->Performance and Maintenance--->System--->Advanced--->(under Performance Section click "Settings")--->Advanced--->Virtual Memory (Click "Change"), U can set it up to the amount u like, please do remember this will take memory space of ur Harddrive. I am using 2000MB, this can help u maintain ur game. It can work most of the time. NotGuaranteeing

Re: Call of Duty 4 Crashing
I switched the virtual memory to 2000MB and so far so good. Usually it crashes sometime within the first game if not early in the second and I played through three games straight so far so good
Thanks so much!

Re: Call of Duty 4 Crashing
Could be a RAM issue, run memtest a few times (press delete as you boot up to go ito bios, and find the "quickboot" option - disable it), see if it finds any errors.
It could also be graphics card overheating, although I don't think it is... Use Everest or CPUZ or similar to run diagnostics and check system temeratures... As for antivirus, AVG is NOT the best... lmfao... wether you're using the paid or free version, it's bobbins... Go to http://www.av-comparatives.org/ to see which is the best (Avira AntiVir Premium apparently), but for a gaming rig I'd have to recommend Eset's Nod32... AVG? AAHAAHHAAAHAHAHAHAHAAAA good joke...
