Gaming Textures problem?
Well here is my issue.
When I play video games on my computer after 2 or 3 hours (yes I'm a big loser ) something happens with my monitor. I get all of these red blue and green dots all over the screen and when this happens some of the textures in the game start to come out of place, I guess you could say. Here is an example. All of the blue lines are coming out of the water texture....which isn't supposed to happen. ![]() ![]() Most of the games I play I play in windows mode and my desktop is black so I can see a lot of them. With some of the games if I minimize the game and bring it back the textures go back to normal but it will start to happen again. And when the amount of RGB Dots gets really high my monitor starts to go to a black screen then back to my desktop then back to a black screen etc etc. When I click on the start menu to restart it does that too. I Really have no idea what causes it but I have a feeling it might be my monitor overheating because during the winter when I leave my window open and it gets really cold it rarely gets the dots, and if it does there is barely any. But thats just a hunch. If anyone has ever heard of this and knows a solution it will be GREATLY appreciated. .:PS:. I posted this here because it only happens when I play games. I apologize if I have posted in the wrong section. Last edited by Specks_Dots; 07-21-2008 at 10:21 PM. |

Re: Gaming Textures problem?
Could be your monitor is going or your graphics/video card. Having your window open during the Winter to "cool" down your monitor would also cool down your computer too.
As you said, in the winter, your monitor does not show so many dots. With the onset of Summer, it would be overheating more just because of this. So after 3 hours, overheating is worse. I have had this happen with an old monitor. A 15" Samsung CRT that was used before I got it 10 years ago. Just kept it when switching to newer computers. Gave me good service during my desert Summer heat and its cold Winter days/nights. It finally gave me problems sort of like this and eventually went dark ...never to come back up. But how old is your video card? If there is anything wrong with it...it may not be handling the textures properly either. Just a thought. |

Re: Gaming Textures problem?
As Laurie says, overheating is the most likely reason for the graphics artifacts. Check your graphics card fan, CPU fan and case fans to make sure they're all spinning and free of dust.
If it looks dusty in there, give it a blast of compressed air, especially around the card slots, heatsink and fans. Do you have at least 2 case fans, one at the front pulling in cool air and one at the back blowing out warm air? It could also be related to a weak PSU. Open the case and post back with the make/model, total watts and amps for +12V (details on PSU label). How old is it, and have you ever upgraded it?
