Downloaded updates and game won't run online

Hi I recently installed Quake 4 on my new computer. when i went to play online it worked but only showed 6 servers and the game recomended i install updates so i did. now i can not play i keep getting an error that says

Quote:

could not create destination file c:/programfiles/id software/quake4/q4mp/gam

I now get a simular problem with Wolfenstien enemy teritory.

I was wondering if there was a way to fix this. I am consideing getting quake wars enemy territory but i don't want to get it and encounter this problem withought knowing how to fix it.

None of these work. As for the downloading the patch step that is the probelm. It was working fine and then I go to download the patch and all of a suden the game won't run

is the game installed on the default c: drive?if not you will need to change the destination directory of the patch.

Yes the game is installed on Drive C: in the Program Files folder

Are you currently the administrator? I don't know much about Vista, but my friend can never install patches without doing whatever it is that you need to do on Vista. Sorry about how vague that is.

go to the path the error gave. c:/programfiles/id software/quake4/q4mp and try to make a new file or folder in there. if you get an error than this means that you do not have rights to write to that directory.. which probably means as the post above said you do not have administrator on the windows account you are on. try to right click quake 4 icon and Run As Administrator, then get the patch and see if it works.
