In China... and unable to play my favorite game!! ARGH!

So.. I've hopped some ponds and ended up in China from the US. The Hebei province... city of Tangshan. Anywho...

I play muds. Yes, the outdated text based rpg games through a program called ZMUD.

The zmud client connects me to genesismuds.com on port 1848, which is the mud's server and port. It then takes and sends the game text and the text I input.

I can't play it though. Odd. I know you can mud in China, or am pretty sure.

Running a tracert to the ip, I am getting but Request timeouts.

I am behind a firewall, but firewalls have never stopped my mudding before. Also, I talked to the network admin, and he supposedly unblocked port 1848 for me.

In fact, zmud say "connected to host" but then stops working... no more information is recieved. It reminds me of another problem I have with FTP.

With the ftp (an american server) I used to connect fine when I was hosted by a windows server... but then switched to linux for php... and now the ftp client connects... and then says "waiting for greeting" or something like that, and times out.

Seems like I can connect but then no info is coming through. I've tried to use proxies unsuccessfully.

I've tried to use http-tunnel unsuccessfully.

I've tried sockscap. Still, no dice.

Now, keep in mind I am a network amateur, so I might have bumbled the httptunnel/sockscap/and proxy, but still. I have no clue what is going on here. I've another friend in china (a different province) who CAN connect to muds, or so he claims.

HEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!

Chinese government controls everything.

"No outsiders is playing Muds in our country"

Ya know they even control how much World of Warcraft you play! you can't play more than 22 hours per day!! ***!
