Team Fortress 2 On Old Computer

I have an older computer that I'm trying to get TF2 to work on. I used to use this computer no more than 4 months ago to play. The specs are Amd Xp 2400+, Radeon x800 256mb, 1.25Gig system memory. My settings are pretty much turned all the way down with the exception of the resolution which is at 1024x768. I was running it with the same settings 4 month ago on a 20" wide screen monitor with only minor video lag. But now on a 15" standard monitor its like a slide show. Any suggestions? I have reformatted the computer with XP Sp2 with all the latest drivers for the computer. Currently the only thing installed is Steam and the OS. Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: Team Fortress 2 On Old Computer

Hey there, welcome to TSF,

I would say to try the catalyst 7.1 drivers if you can get them. Any game on the source/HL2 engine including TF2 should do OK on an X800 at medium to low settings.

Another thing to quickly check is that your task manager is not showing unusually high CPU usage.

Finally, see if you can pop open your console and type in "net_graph 3" (without quotes) and see if its your ping or framerate thats causing the lag (just to make sure it isn't server latency).

EDIT: I have just been looking around, and you aren't the only one with this type of problem.
