Video capture - Dark?

Hello everyone,

This is my first post, so please humor me if I forget something.

I am attempting to capture in-game footage from FFXI.

I have purchased the full version of FRAPS and can get unlimited movie length from fraps.

When I play the fraps imagery in Windows Media Player, the imagery plays with the proper coloring, but the image is herky-jerky (as the FRAPS website says it will be because it doesn't have time to encode the imagery as it is captured).

This is when I experience problems. I have trouble getting the imagery compressed. I am using virtualdub at the moment, and attempting to use the most recent Fivx codec when I convert the images.

After the conversion, the imagery stops doing the herky-jerky thing, but the image is dark, as if only 20% of the light is getting through...
