COD4 Lag just online

Hey, i just got my COD4 and the installation went smooth. I decided to try Multiplayer, It was running great for a couple of minutes, then it starts to lag alot. It goes like this:
1- 3 Seconds freeze lag, your just stuck on the same screen for that amount of seconds, then when its out of it, the game is running smooth for 1 - 3 seconds and then it repeats. And this happens everytime i try to play COD4 Online.

I've tried reinstalling, repatching, cleaned comp from viruses and defragged HD. This only happens when i'm playing Multiplayer online. When i start my own, it's running fine.

My specs are:
CPU : INTEL Q6600 with ZALMAN CNPS9700 NT
MOBO : ASUS Striker II Formula(with the onboard audio, SUPREMEFX II)
MEMORY : CORSAIR 2GB DOMINATOR DDR2 PC8500 XMS2-8500
GRAPHICS CARD : ASUS EN GT8800
PSU : CORSAIR TX 750W

I run games such as Crysis, Assassins creed, WoW, Tom Clancys Rainbow Six Vegas 2 just fine. Only Crysis kills my FPS :p but that'd be expected.

Mine lags sometimes as well. My internet connection is fine and sometimes it lags by not running as smoothly as it should and bullets not hitting the person your shooting. I'm gold prestige and it used to be fine for me so i can tell that every game is lagging a bit. I don't know why it lags now, it was lagging for my friend as well who also has a good connection but it stopped for him and not for me. He lives like 5 doors away.

Lagging can occur when you use the game during "peak times", say when all the kids are in from school and all using the internet ---- you broadband connection will be slower at these times.
Other things to consider are background programs --- have you left the likes of Limewire running, some people are unaware that when closing Limewire with the corner "x" it minimises to system tray and is still running!
Users could be draining your bandwidth because you are uploading to them as they share your files.

Also check that an anti virus program is not running a scheduled scan in the background.
Windows Defender is a pain for causing ingame lag when it runs its daily quick scan!

*make sure you have all windows updates up to date too,..
