Losing connection when online gaming

Please help!!! This one has got me tearing my hair out.

Every time I play CoD4 or Counterstrike multiplayer online, I get disconnected after 5-10 minutes. Not only does the game disconnect, but my internet connection goes completely. I am unable to connect using any other application. In fact, I am unable to connect to my modem at all. Restarting the modem doesn't help. I have to reboot the PC too. So far I have tried the following...

1. A known serviceable modem (wired & wireless).
2. Disabling firewall.
3. Port forwarding set up correctly for games.
4. Line tests carried out - OK.

None of the above has helped at all. I'm getting desperate now. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

im not sure what the problem really might be but might have bad modem or bad internet connection.

Are youusing a router or connecting straight from the modem? If you have a router make sure your firmware is up to date.
