Issues across several online games
Hi there, I'm currently plagued with an issue that seems to appear over several games, the ones I generally play include Guild Wars, Maplestory. About one week ago I downloaded and installed maplestory onto my desktop, however after playing for some time I began to experience disconnects at varying amounts of time with no consistency between them. I figured ok whatever, I went back to Guild Wars and played without a problem.
Yet, today I pulled up guild wars and began getting errored out, disconnected, and last night while using a voice chat program named Ventrilo I experienced disconnects again. I also play Team Fortress 2 yet rarely have I seen a disconnect error on it, but I have not played in some time. For some more background info right now anytime I try to download anything upon opening an installer I get a corrupt file program and can't figure that out. I've attempted system restoring to a time before I had installed maple story yet it fails the system restore every time. I've attempted virus scans using Kaspersky and Ad Aware, I use a Zone Alarm firewall. I also should add that at times I get blue screened of death with a physical memory dump error. This is generally rare but does occur during times of high memory useage. I'd assume the problem is with Maplestory yet in the past I had experienced small lag spikes without afull disconnect, and over Pidgin (AIM) I often disconnect and reconnect. Some more recent programs I have installed include deskspace (gives a Linux like cube desktop) and object dock (simply a shortcut dock). I also run a program called Hamachi which allows for a virtual LAN connection, yet I have used it for a long time and haven't had problems with it before. I've confirmed its not my internet itself by using a laptop and not having any problems, and using my desktop at a friend's house and still experiencing disconnects. I'm not sure if it is still a virus due to the inability to system restore and the corrupt download issue. Another possible issue is the fact that about 1-2 months ago my computer fan gave out and I've resorted to opening up the case and using a portable home fan to blow into it, the comp runs at fine temperatures but could dust or contact with internal parts cause something like this? I can post computer specs if needed. Sorry for the lack of focus, I am very clueless as to what would be doing something like this even with it most likely being Maplestory. If this is not the problem I'm open to any other ideas. Last edited by Memento : 01-05-2008 at 03:25 PM. |

Re: Issues across several online games
The temperature would at most crash the game in the worst case scenario, not disconnect it.
You might have some sort of firewall running in the background, might be windows. Check your processes to see what is going on and also post a HijackThis log for me to look at. You must have something tampering with your connection internally.

Re: Issues across several online games
Wow sorry about the huge wait, I got caught up in a lot and this slipped out of my mind. I'm not sure if I should C/P the text or what but here that is
For a bit more of an update I went ahead and changed the ethernet cable I was using for the time being, and that ended up helping a lot for a while however as time went on again I was getting DC's and errored out of games, and now I am getting very constant disconnects off of Ventrilo and Ventrilo itself will error out with the message of "ventrilo has ended unexpectedly etc etc" Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.0 (BETA) Scan saved at 3:53:43 PM, on 1/14/2008 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\hpztsb06.exe C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\NetworkAccessManager\bin\nTrayFw.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_02\bin\jusched.exe C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock\ObjectDock.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exe C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\NetworkAccessManager\Apache Group\Apache2\bin\apache.exe C:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\RaMaint.exe C:\Program Files\LogMeIn\x86\LogMeIn.exe C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\NetworkAccessManager\bin\nSvcIp.exe C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\NetworkAccessManager\bin\nSvcLog.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\NetworkAccessManager\Apache Group\Apache2\bin\apache.exe C:\Program Files\VentSrv\ventrilo_svc.exe C:\Program Files\VentSrv\ventrilo_srv.exe C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\NetworkAccessManager\bin\nSvcAppFlt.exe C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wscntfy.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Arv\Desktop\HiJackThis_v2.exe R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Re: Issues across several online games
everything on there is safe except for
O8 - Extra context menu item: &Winamp Toolbar Search - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Winamp Toolbar\ieToolbar\resources\en-US\local\search.html but this wouldn't be harming your connection. at this point im stumped, i would need to look at the computer. i would recommend taking it in.

Re: Issues across several online games
Please post your system specs and the blue screen error messages in full, inclusing Stop codes.
Run memtest on one stick of RAM at a time to test for any errors. Direct link to pre-compiled bootable ISO (click the link to download the zipped ISO file) http://www.memtest.org/download/1.70...+-1.70.iso.zip Unzip the file and burn the ISO to CD (as an image, not as data) to create a bootable CD. Reboot and go into the BIOS. Change the boot order to 'CD first', save settings, insert the CD and reboot. This will start the program. Run for one RAM stick at a time (very important) for at least 10 passes each and post back with the results. It's not a good idea to run the computer with the case open for too long. Dust gathers around the slots, heatsink and fans, causing overheating. Where was the broken fan positioned? Replace the faulty fans and put the side panel back on. Proper airflow will help with the temperatures.
