Lag Problem In Css

I've had the game for a good while, no problems like this. I can load up a populated server list, all under a 50 ping. When I click one to enter, nothing happens, and then latency will pop up to 2000. I can add it to my favs, and then get into it after clicking join for a while. Also, it has been lagging my computer in general (steam). Possibly something with their updates?
Example: Just recently looking for a topic on this issue, i got out of game (steam still running) and opened IE, and typed google.com. 4 minutes later my live search engine came up.
closed steam, and it took 1 second for google to come up.

If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it.

does this problem happen only when the game is open, but you still have steam up and logged in? can you view your friends list and talk with one of them? can you with the game up?

Either in game or at the steam window. Doesn't matter whether i'm checking from desktop or in game.

i meant the lag, does it lag with just the steam client open, or is it good until you open the counterstrike application?

The second Steam starts. I saw you're reply, opened up steam, and all the IE windows I had opened stopped working. (close steam) almost immediately worked...

when did you last play counterstrike successfully?
have you checked the site to see if there have been any updates/patches since then?
does it appear as though steam is downloading an update or patch?
are you running steam in compatibility mode? go to your steam directory, right click steam.exe go to properties, select compatibility tab and uncheck it if it is checked.
have you tried repairing steam?
control panel > add/remove programs > steam
there should be a repair option, put in a password.. and check to not replace with newer files. if this doesn't work, repeat but check replace with newer files.

post with results or lack of results.

Steam could be updating games, or itself. Check the icon in the corner it might have a connection icon. (Steam sign with a few dots)

umm... i had already suggested updating.. just wondering why it needed to be restated?
