Random Disconnections

I've been having problems with my internet. Every time I have been playing any on-line game such as Trickster, Maplestory, Counterstike Source, and other, I have been getting random lag spikes that cause to to eventually disconnect. I can't remember when it started happening, but it was a while ago. If you could help me solve my problem, i'de be very greatful.

Re: Random Disconnections

Have you run any anti-virus programs, if so which, and what were the results?
When you check your processes what is your CPU % and PF size/usage?
If the CPU % is 100 or close, what is currently listed in the processes?
Have you tried using a different CAT-5 (ethernet) cable?
Have you made sure that your CAT-5 is properly seated in both your network card and the router/modem/hub?
Have you tried using other computers connected to the router/modem/hub to connect to any games?

Post back with the above.

Thanks,
WaXeD.

Wow, sorry, I didn't understand any of that. Yes, i've tried other games, and yes they all lag, but some don't disconnect, but I think that depends on the type of the game. I have a modem, and router, so I have two of my comps connected to the same internet. Could it be possible that it is my internet provider? If so, how do I fix that?

Re: Random Disconnections

Ok so you have two comps currently connected to the internet, do the lag spikes during gameplay occur on both computers, or just one?

Re: Random Disconnections

I think both have the lag spikes. The other is m brother's and he says he gets them to. Also I don't know if this helps or not, but whenver I download a game or somthing that takes more then 2 hours. It almost always stops and doesn't begin again. This is not including P2P downloading though.

Re: Random Disconnections

P2P over the internet. What I mean is, when I am download with p2p, when it stops, it restarts itself again where as just regular internet download, when it stops, it doesn't begin again.

Re: Random Disconnections

oh, that's how it's supposed to be, regular downloads don't restart but p2p applications generally restart them.

try to send a somewhat large file from one computer to the other and see if it goes through fine without stopping.

Re: Random Disconnections

so then that eliminates the possibility of it being both your internet provider and a connection past your router.

so if the problem is on both computers, then it is a problem with the router itself... a setting on your router is the likely problem. you are using an ethernet cable or wireless to connect to your router?

Re: Random Disconnections

ok now try connecting the ethernet cable from one of your computers directly to the modem instead of to the router, and see if your gameplay is significantly improved.

Re: Random Disconnections

Okay, I connected my internet cable to my modem, and it's working a lot better. But with that working, only 1 comp can have internet...>.<
