Unusual Lag

ok i've been experiencing rather unusual lag as of late while playing WoW

generally starts up after 10pm.

Effectively, i can't see anything thats happening, as far as i can see from my char, nothing is moving etc. i can still move around un affected, but everything else is still.

While this is happening i can still type messages although they don't come up on my chat box, and people still recieve them.

These spikes normally last around 5-10 seconds which makes gameplay near impossible.

My internet connection has also been a bit off from 10pm onwards. I'm with orange broadband (i want to change as far as i'm concerned orange is one of the worst providers i've seen, but alas, the contract isn't in my name, dispite the fact i pay for it. And my mum doesn't see why we need to change... )

I pay for 4mB internet, however, the last few speedtests i've done i've actually been getting between 56k and 1.5mB.

If anyone knows any possible causes, or fixes. So far i've tried the following ways of fixing this

---

defrag pc
run several spyware checkers
run anti-virus
check ports are open
make sure drivers are up to date on everything
make sure wireless is fully connecting
disconnected internet connection, then reconnected
disconnected, turned off livebox for 30 seconds and reconnected
same as above but for 16h.
Restarted PC.

Still no luck as of yet.

I honestly have no idea what to try next, NOTHING is working for me. Hell half the time i can't even do speed tests to check because my internet crashes half way through the test.

Re: Unusual Lag

yeah, unsure how to edit posts

i've been doing some speed tests for the past day or two, and i have another question. This is about internet connection and could be the cause of my weird lag

my download speed is extremely eratic. going between 100k and 1mB. my upload speed has been constant at around 350kbps.

Any idea what could cause the eratic download speeds? Also, does anyone know any way to get through to orange braodband and get them to get off their backsides and fix the problem before next year?

Re: Unusual Lag

What type of broadband service do you have? I have 8Mbps cable from Time-Warner and can get things coming to me at 825KBps when a fast server is dishing the data.

Re: Unusual Lag

I just made a thread about this same problem, later on at night my internet goes downhill and prevents me from raiding in WoW.
