microsoft flight sim

How would one go about making texture changes to a particular default a/c in Flight sim? For example I would like to create a new DC_3 in fs2004 from existing emerald airlines DC-3 by revising lettering to Royal Canadian Air Force
and removing logo on tail fin. The rest of the texture happpens to be that of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Is there copyright involved?

By the way, if Sven deals with this question, I was able to reinastall FS2004 and everything works ok...Thanks

This, though it would seem easy, is actually very complex. There is also a huge structure difference between FS9 and FSX; FSX is the more "efficient" one. You need several programs and plug-ins, as well, in order to convert the current texture files to something workable, then back to the FS format. In order to "paint" the aircraft you will need a descent photo editing program, be prett adept at using it and have some time to learn all of this.

So.. There are two ways that we can go about this:

1. - If ALL you want is just one texture done, it may be better to have someone that is more experienced do it for you. They will have ALL the tools and plug-ins to accomplish this fairly quickly. I am such a person, just to let you know...

2. - You can learn to do it yourself, several hours a week for about a month, and you can "paint" any aircraft in both versions.

I can do both, and either is fine with me, but the determining factors are posted above. Let me know what you think.

In the meantime here are some pics I have done or am doing:

PMDG 747-400X Delta Airlines (1. Real 747; 2. FSX version I painted):

Quicksilver Sport 2S I am designing from scratch for FSX, using 3DS Max 9:

Re: microsoft flight sim

Hi Sven:
I would really be interested in having a relatively minor revision made to a default DC-3
in FSX if you could do it. The existing paint is World travel airways. What i would need is the world travel airways replaced with CANADA. If you have an email address i could send you a jpg of the actual a/c. The logo on tail fin would have to be removed as well as the N number on fuselage. Also can you tell me why all logo and lettering on all my inventory appears somewaht blurred and washed out? I have settings at ultra high. My video card is ATI radeon 4600 xt 512 mb.

I appreciate your help

Sorry Jowlj,

I reformatted the other day and have begun the lengthy process of putting all my software back on to my machine. Right now I am waiting on a 1.2GB download from Microsoft, for my Visual Studio and SQL 2005.

Can you go to Airliners.net and find a couple really good pictures of the livery you want done? Then post them here AND PM/Email them to me so I have something accurate to work with.

Hey Jim,

Sure did, I have been re-loading my MS FSX SDK software and all my developers tools... It takes a couple days to get them all back on, patched and set back up...

But yeah I got the pictures.. I should have something for you by about Thursday or Friday... Is that ok? Or is it too late?.....

Re: microsoft flight sim

No worries I didn't think you were being pushy. Re-Formats are never fun when you have a TON of production software on your system. Especially, when you have the original copies of the software; i.e. no SP's slipstreamed into the media. The updates are what kills me!

But, yeah I will get to it ASAP!
