Hi Everyone,
Anybody knows of some turn-based strategy games? The types where the battle starts atop grid-like battlefield? For example, for psx console there are final fantasy tactics, rhapsody - a musical adventure, front mission series, saiyuki - a journey west, etc. I'm looking for pc version of such games. Any recommendations are appreciated. |

Re: Looking for some turn-based strategy games for pc
Hi.
If you're into oldschool games and have a computer with Windows 98 on it, and can obtain a copy of Albion, then I HIGHLY recommend it. It's more an RPG than a strategy game, but there is a lot of combat involved, and the combat is exactly as you describe, you make your plans and stuff on a grid, which represents the battlefield. Other than that, it has (in my opinion) one of the best storylines of any game ever made, and is a lot of fun to people who enjoy games with complex and involved storylines.

Re: Looking for some turn-based strategy games for pc
Hi everyone,
Thanks for the great recommendations. I'll definitely try all of them. 1) For civilization 4, yep it's a great game. I used to play that on the psx console. 2) Heroes V - Checked the homepage you gave and it looks great. 3) Albion - I'll definitely play this on my old terminal 4) Fallout tactics - Googled for this and the rating is high. WOW! Now that I've got a list of great games I'll have to plan which one to play 1st. (^_^) |

Re: Looking for some turn-based strategy games for pc
The entire Heroes of Might and Magic series was pretty good; I think I liked Heroes III the best. V was very good as well, but it was made by a different developer and they added a 3D viewing system, which in my opinion simply made it harder to know what was going on without any real gameplay benefit. The basic 2D isometric view of the earlier games was much more functional. However, Heroes V is a fairly gorgeous game, and it's still very enjoyable. Heroes III is my favorite, though.
You could probably find Heroes II, III, and IV at a used PC games retailer, and maybe Heroes V, though you'd probably have to buy it new. I don't know if they sell ones older than IV as new, though.

Re: Looking for some turn-based strategy games for pc
In my opinion, Heroes V was ruined by the 3D interface. Heroes III was by far the best in the series. My friend and I still play that one. There is even a fan-made expansion for it called (Wake of Gods). It takes the gameplay to a whole new level (and then some).
Another really good TBS is Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic. |

I will recommend..
1. Heroes of Might and Magic series (definitely a must) 2. Icewind Dale (turn based strategy role playing game) 3. Paradise Cracked (old school but still awesome..) 4. Disciples: Sacred Lands (One of the best for me, same like Heroes)
