Advice needed....playing Doom

Hey everyone,
So I think I am having a gaming relapse (with all these old games). I just installed Doom, does anyone know of any mods that allow me to look up and down, and left and right with the mouse? Also, if anyone knows of anything that improves the gaming experience (graphics), that would be helpful.

How do I use Doom legacy? Please give me step by step directions. Thanks

You wanted a vintage game, you get a vintage game. If you want nice graphics, get Doom 3.

I can give you one tip on playing any Doom game (especially Doom 3) that is, ALWAYS, ALWAYS LOOK BEHIND YOU!, never leave your back unattended in this series.

Re: Advice needed....playing Doom

Ah...."DOOM". I got this shortly after playing "Castle Wolfenstein" on a friend's 386. Both of these "hooked" me onto PC gameplay and FPS until branching out much later on. Spent a lot of hours playing that game and combing the web for new ".wads".

I used keyboard, though.

I remember using a serial cable to link 2 machines and gaming in co-op. Man... Spent many sleepless nights in that game!

Re: Advice needed....playing Doom

MMmmmm, might dig out my copies of Quake and Shadow Warrior (Lo Wang is a hoot to listen to)

Yeah and don't forget ROTT!

Then there was Descent and Descent II. Still have my copies of these too. Last time I played Descent was on my HP Pavilion P4 2 ghz two years ago, though. It may still play on my Core 2 Duo.

Some of the Raven team that made Heretic, went on to form Human Head Studios.

Re: Advice needed....playing Doom

if you like FPS about aliens and weird stuff you should try and find it
but if you are used to Crysis graphics you'll see that Prey is a bit outdated, it uses an upgraded version of the Doom 3 engine

oh BTW! SICK SYSTEM you got 5niper!!!! Nice one indeed! do you plan on making the next Shrek movie on your PC?
oh and for your question Xerexes (sorry for the delay) you don't need a mouse and keyboard for classic doom, and if you like doom that much play doom 3, or just wait for Doom 4 (I can't wait for that )

Re: Advice needed....playing Doom

Thanks for the replies. I do have Doom 3, and I have played it. Im just having a gaming relapse you know. Nice to know other people are having it too.

Another old game you guys should look at is System Shock.

I used this program called Doomsday, and launched Doom and Doom 2 with it. It is really cool, you can set the game with a higher resolution. I am trying to find a addon which adds new weapons to the game.

Also, with the Doomsday program (or engine, I don't know) you can look up and down, jump, but I have not been able to crouch. You can notice the change in graphics with Doom II.

My last question on this topic. Is it possible to play Doom and Doom 2 on other game engines? And if you can, will there be a noticeable difference in graphics? These questions are kind of silly, but I was just curious.

Re: Advice needed....playing Doom

There are some Doom 1 adaptations for Half Life 2.

Yes! System Shock and System Shock 2! Some fine games right there, and spiritual father to Bioshock.
