Need for speed shift

Looks like Grid.....

You know what I'm willing to bet , the cars will be hard to drive (like in prostreet and undercover) and the requirements to get it to look like Grid will be through the roof.

Re: Need for speed shift

I'm really looking forward to it. I just hope it's as good as the preview videos appear to be, and that it works well with a steering wheel.

It looks closer to GRID than any of the other NFS games, so I'm hoping the handling is as good and not too arcadey.

The green racing line indicator might be a bit off-putting, although I can see how it will be very useful for new drivers and for learning the best lines to take. Hope it can be disabled though.

Re: Need for speed shift

I like grid handleing more becuase , I don't know... Need for speed is just flat out hard to drive. I mean , it's easier to drive a real car then it is in that game lol.

Re: Need for speed shift

After reading some new reviews, I'm still undecided. NFS Shift definitely looks better than GRID (especially when using the cockpit view), but there's a question mark over the handling and how well it can be tweaked. I'll probably stick with GRID until some Shift gameplay videos are posted on youtube.

From http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Rev...ift-19853.html
Quote:
Though Need for Speed: Shift is billed as a simulation racer, the game isn't merely for racing game vets. Once you start Career mode, Shift will provide suggested settings based on how well you perform in a test lap. Neophytes can turn down the A.I.'s difficulty, make gear shifting automatic, get a little help with handling, and so on. Many players will also want to make use of the optional driving line, a colored guideline that appears on the track to show you the correct path. This turns yellow when you need to slow down and red when you really, really need to slow down and it's a must for learning to navigate turns.

Let's address the elephant(s) in the room: Gran Turismo 5 and Forza Motorsport 3 are both coming out this year too. I don't doubt some of you PS3/Xbox 360 owners will bypass this game in anticipation of those other ones. Shift really shouldn't be overlooked, though. It's a well-executed game that provides enough realism for the racing purists while still remaining accessible to schlubs who can't drive stick. With this game, Slightly Mad's not only lifted the Need for Speed franchise out of a deep funk but managed to create a viable competitor to some of the best games in the genre.

From http://www.videogamer.com/xbox360/nfs_shift/review.html
Quote:
In terms of how driving feels, it'll depend a lot on the assists you've got turned on, but in general we reckon Shift sits somewhere between the flash of Project Gotham Racing and complete seriousness of Gran Turismo. Complete hardcore sim fans may find that a little disappointing, but given the series' arcade heritage this is still a massive departure and will be a huge change from the norm for anyone who has stuck to the NFS franchise down the years. Analogue stick controls take some getting used to, with the sensitivity likely requiring a tweak or two to feel right, but once you've got a setup you're happy with the cars handle superbly well.

From http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/ne...d-shift-review
Quote:
Where GRID offered light but precise and predictable handling with a satisfying, grippy bite to it, SHIFT is a wild, tempestuous beast, prone to nervous oversteer (and not just in rear-wheel-drive cars). Steering is twitchy, and even with traction and stability controls switched on, your car maintains a tenuous relationship with the road at best. This isn't the elegant, tactile and progressive sliding of a PGR, either: it's sudden, and quite scary.

If thats the only good racing simulation for the PC, I'll get it. I lost faith in the Need for Speed franchise.

Same here , seems they dump out 3 games a year and use the brand name to sell it.

Re: Need for speed shift

I've got it downloading right now, from the EA Store. Much as I suck at games, including driving ones, I do enjoy bashing about a track. 6+ hour download though, be a while before I can set up the wheel and take it out for a spin.

Re: Need for speed shift

I haven't had any time, got it installed, but need to tweak the settings. So short on time for the last while, this will be a week without playing golf. And with the short golf season here it's a shame. Picked up a Nike Sumo2 3 wood a couple weeks ago, only used it twice, been so busy, beauty of a club though.

Re: Need for speed shift

Finally gave up on getting it to work right in xp, so I installed it in win7, and it works great. I can see myself spending a lot of hours on this one. Find it a lot easier to hold the line than I did with grid, bit of a pain getting through the pack though. Not that I mind bouncing off the odd other car, that's always fun.

Re: Need for speed shift

I don't get why people don't like the handling in grid. When you turn the car it turns. I thought that was a nice method to game design.

Rather then EA which you turn the car it takes either 10 minutes for the tires to get all the way over , or the car doesn't bother turning at all and under steers into a wall. lol . It's like a fight just to drive the car. Hence the racing lines. In a real race your focusing more on the competition , and not fighting your own car.

Re: Need for speed shift

The handling in shift works well for me, quite responsive. Grid, on the other hand, I just
couldn't drive at all decently, was all over the place. Burnout Paradise handled good too,
but I found it a tad pointless, aside from the "jumping through signs" aspect.
Graphics are good and gameplay very smooth, not that I would expect any less.
It's just a great game in a genre that I like, with any luck I'll be able to find the time
to explore it further, learn the tuning and all that.

Was just thinking, I play it with high settings in 1680x1050
resolution. Not sure how much of a difference the settings
make in how it looks though.
