Re: crysis 2
I think Crysis 2 might take advantage of Dx 11 hardware. I would think that waiting to buy the new ATI 5000 series cards or Nvidia's GTX 300 series cards for when the game comes out. The truth is that most games skipped Dx 10 but I think that Dx 11 will be the new standard by around 2011 or 2012 but definitely not next year.

Re: crysis 2
If hey are running the demo on consoles then I expect that PC hardware won't need a new generation of technology to run it as well.

Re: crysis 2
Crytek once said that they were unable to port Crysis to the 360 or PS3 because the hardware there couldn't handle it, but the CryEngine 3 looks better than its predecessor while still running on those systems. On the PC, I don't think we'll have the same "no one can run this at high settings at over 1 fps" problems from the first game's launch, but it'll still remain pretty high-end.

Re: crysis 2
I think that Crysis 2 min specs will be 2 gig RAM, Core 2 Duo (any) and a Geforce 7800 GT (Ati x1800)
but of course on that specs the game won't look nice

Re: crysis 2
I actually very much doubt that the next generation of games will "take advantage of DX11" since DX11 doesn't actually add a ton of improvements for graphics functionality. The three main features being added are tesselation (to allow a low detail model to be rendered with additional polygons at runtime using improvements on vector graphics), multithreaded rendering to make rendering more efficient on multi-core CPUs, and improvements to how stream processors are handled, to make scientific and mathematical computations more efficient, which should only excite you if you're running something like folding@home or a similar project.
Since even with the multithreaded rendering programming for quad core CPUs is a pain in the butt, that means the only really big improvement with DX11 is tesselation (which ATI cards have been including a hardware component for since about the Radeon 9000 series--good on them!). So basically, DX11 will be nice, but it's really more of an incremental improvement over DX10, rather than a quantum leap.

Re: crysis 2
I too think it is a incremental improvement over DX 10 but I think it is a veryu big optimization of Dx 10. There is the compute shader which allows parallel processing on the graphics card to a higher degree and the amount of detail that tessalation adds is awesome. The tessellation on this go though looks awesome graphical prettiness
Those graphics on the 360 and PS3 are about equal to a 8800 GT (512mb) or so. I can't wait for the Crysis 2 as it looks like even the mediocre hardware (compared to a nice PC) is a big improvement. I am an optimistic person, so when Vista came out I went for it. I liked but sadly my motherboard was broken for it because of the drivers but worked fine for Ubuntu or any Linux OS. |

Re: crysis 2
The 360 graphics card (Xenos) was actually the precursor of the 8800GS (aka 9600GSO)--they both use a 65nm manufacturing process, GDDR3 memory (shared with the CPU in the case of the 360), and similar clock speeds (the Xenos runs 500MHz--8800GS is 550MHz). The 8800GS/9600GSO is slightly better because of a higher memory bandwidth, more and unified shader processors, and the aforementioned higher clock speed.
So the Xbox 360 graphics fall somewhere between the 9500GT and the 9600GSO. I'd need to do some research to compare to the PS3.

Re: crysis 2
Actually, Xenos is made by ATI and is more like a 2xxx-class CPU. 48 unified stream processors and embedded DRAM.
The PS3 GPU is loosely based on the 7800.
