A good realistic racer for PC

Does anybody know of a game that's like Grid only with proper handling? I like the graphics on Grid, and would like to think I'm making use of my two 4870's, but on the other hand I can't live with the handling. I'm not well up on recent game releases.

Cheers,
DD

Re: A good realistic racer for PC

at the end of this month EA is releasing Need for Speed Shift, it'll be a realistic racing game even better than Grid, I think you should wait for that
you can find other realistic racing games like GTR 2, Race 07

I've heard good things about GTR 2 and rFactor, but both are pretty old...

Re: A good realistic racer for PC

tbh I'm hankering after my Gran Turismo (1) days on the playstation. I went back to that a couple of years ago and found that the cars which I'd thought were so realistic back in the day actually look like they're made of lego.

Anyways, cheers for info. I'll be interested to see this new NFS game - I've owned previous ones but they've all been a bit arcadey.

On NFS Shift you son't need a HUD and the car's speedometer actually works.

Re: A good realistic racer for PC

If you are looking racing simulator check out Live for speed:http://www.lfs.net/ . It is quite an old game but always under development (Currently working on a new tyre Physics and the new VW Scirocco). What I like about this game is that when you play online there are different types of servers. People have created their own server and "adapted" it into cruising servers, drifting servers and even destruction derby servers.

Of course, if you want to race seriously then you can do by all means. But I prefer the cruising servers myself as they have a cops n robbers system which can be a good laugh.

Need for Speed Shift sounds tempting. I'd also recommend Juiced 2 - had great fun with this game.

Re: A good realistic racer for PC

Dangerous-Dave, have you experimented with the handling settings and 'driver assists' in GRID? The default settings never feel right for everyone as they are just a compromised guideline. You just need to drive a few laps and keep hitting the Esc key every few minutes to tweak the sliders and options until you get the car feeling right.

Re: A good realistic racer for PC

I have a vague recollection of juiced (2?) coming out some time ago. Might be worth a look though. I guess I have nothing to lose trying to tweek Grid - actually I didn't know you could. It feels like driving a scalextric car on a plasticine track ATM.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I'm going to give my new wireless thrustmaster gamepad a whirl on it too and see if that helps. Will definitely be checking out the new NFS game.

Juiced 2 is one of the worst racing games ever released!

IGN made an early review on NFS:SHIFT
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/102/1023568p1.html
That looks really promising! 9 out 10!!
Can't wait for the game to be released!

Re: A good realistic racer for PC

I don't think the opinion of RockmasteR is a matter of opinion. Some games are just terrible.

YouTube - Juiced 2 Drifting Gameplay PC

Looks like one of those really arcadey games you find in the movie theaters. I won't play the game unless someone sends it free my way.

ALthough only having realistic racing games isn't that fun either. You do need a mixture of both. Juiced 2 is in a totally different category and you should try comparing the drifting from Grid to Juiced 2. There is no comparison for the realism in Grid.

Re: A good realistic racer for PC

I read the review and it seemed to be saying that the handling was going to be arcadey again :(

How come they never did a good Gran Turismo-esque game on the PC? Too much licensing money?

Re: A good realistic racer for PC

It's probably because most pc owners have a car and are sick of driving , over most console owners who typically don't. lol , I don't know I'm just guessing.
