256 Players, on a console.

Watch the MAG here
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/ex...-256-mag/51800
WARNING: VIDEO PLAYS IN HIGH DEFINITION! IF YOU HAVE A SLOW INTERNET CONNECTION PLAY THE STANDARD DEFINITION FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE VIDEO

Well, Zipper Interactive, the geniuses who brought you the great SOCOM: US NAVY SEALS game brings you MAG, the FIRST game to let you play an FPS on a console with 256 players, at 30 or more FPS!

Now, 200+ players have been done on games other than MMORPGS, and on PC's but never on consoles.

If you're wondering, PC games like San Andreas Multiplayer supports servers with players that exceed 200.

Of course only the AWESOME power of the AWESOME PlayStaion 3 can power this beast!

Purely amazing is all i can say. But what connection do you need in-order to play with 256 players. In Australia it looks as if we are going to wait for 5 years until they have unrolled the Fiber to all the local exchanges.

would 30 mb download, 5 mb upload with 7-10 ping support that?

I can't believe the governments target for all homes in the uk by 2012. It's 2mb/s. Yes 2mb/s. And japan's target is 1000mb/s.
Fibre optic broadband ftw.

Well if you ask me, every neighbourhood or city should have it's own 10,000 MB/S Fiber Optic connections with it's own server center. Expensive, yes, effective, yes, eco friendly, it could be.

I am not satisfied with my 4mb/s speed. I will probably upgrade to faster speed later.

That is so sad. Australia is backwards when it comes to technology, but even we will have either an FTTP (Fibre To The Property) for every home with an average of 100Mbit/s speed (though theoretically can be up to 14Tbit/s), or a 4G wireless network with an average speed of 21Mbit/s (though can be up to 100Mbit/s). All within ~8 years.

Re: 256 Players, on a console.

I know whats going to happen though, The new fiber comes out to all the homes and the big ISPs limit the speed to 20mb/s with 40gb download limits. and interestingly enough Australia is only one of few countries that have download limits.

Actually im one of the lucky ones that has a house with FTTP, but the ISP can only provide 2.5mb/s line speed as they dont own any hardware in the local exchanges so they are renting off one of the Big ISP that have only given them XXXmb/s to each exchange.

Re: 256 Players, on a console.

I'd pay big bucks to continue my current plan with an Fiber Optic connection, that is, a 'pay per m/b' plan. Really cheap actually, about 3 cents Canadian per 5 MB.

Re: 256 Players, on a console.

Thats pretty expensive as I alone use up around 50 - 70gb for gaming and internet usage.

0.03($$$) * 70,000mb = $420/month for 70gb per month.
5mb

Is that correct?

Holy cow, no. While we use about 100 GB at max, it's nowhere near $400+ a month. It's only like $50. Maybe I was wrong, it could be about 2 cents per 12 MB, but I was sure it was 3 cents/5MB.

Even only 70Gb, at 2 cents per 12Mb is still $116 per month. $160 if you use 100Gb.

Re: 256 Players, on a console.

Yeah that's about right, but on average I use 50-70 GB, 100 was our max (not ISP max, just what we've never exceeded)

It's still cheaper then a bandwidth limit plan, my best friend had a 6 GB limit, he plays online games and his dad downloads stuff all the time. He had to buy more bandwidth every 4 days, not very pretty.
