Why Left 4 Dead and Its Sequel Won't Launch on PS3
Speaking to Loot Ninja, Valve's Game designer Tom Leonard explained the reason why Left 4 Dead and its sequel are only available on PC and Xbox 360:
The PC and the 360 are just more straightforward. We can focus on what we want to do, which is make game experiences, instead of sweating bullets over obscure architectural decisions they make with their platform. [...] I didn’t come into this business in the 90s because of some technical fetish. I came in because I wanted to give people experiences that made them have fun. This is not the first time that Valve criticizes the PlayStation 3. Valve co-founder Gabe Newell has trashed Sony's PlayStation 3 several times, explaining that the complex architecture of the platform makes the development of games for that system a "waste of everybody’s time." http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/19936/...Launch-on-PS3/

Re: Why Left 4 Dead and Its Sequel Won't Launch on PS3
I'm very disappointed in Valve with their lack of effort implementing the game. Oh well, I have Left4Dead on the PC and I'm happy with it. But still, I thought Valve would have it on the PS3 since they are one of the greatest video game developers. :(

Re: Why Left 4 Dead and Its Sequel Won't Launch on PS3
I don't see how a 360 is more straight forward than a PS3, I'd take a PS3 over a xbox 360 any day. PS3 doesn't have monthly fees for online fees, I don't know why xbox has it, ask me it's only for money.

Re: Why Left 4 Dead and Its Sequel Won't Launch on PS3
@Zealex: I think they're referring to the technical aspect of developing for the PS3.
That said, Valve did port the Orange Box to the PS3 right (or was it a third party)? Guess that left a bad taste in their mouth. |

Re: Why Left 4 Dead and Its Sequel Won't Launch on PS3
The developer tools and the system setup of the PS3 are unique. You literally have to learn the tools from scratch, you also have to assign threads to each core (The PS3 does not do it automatically). Its basically like trying to read/write in a new language that you have never seen before.
And Sony wont allow a company to develop its own tools to use on the PS3. (I think that may of changed).
