My friend and I have had simple, beta concept art of some ideas for a revolutionarynew MMORPG for about 3 or so years now.

I won't disclose the name unless you want to PM me in some interest.

I am 30000000000% realiable and creative.

Whatever you can muster, I think I will try my hand in C# and maybe Python so you should too.

Those are good too, I guess I'll take the C# and C++ and Python while you take VB and Delphi, but correct me if I am wrong, isn't .NET only used for networking?

Re: RPG Development

Uh... Java guy here. HAHA. Some questions for your guys: what's your experience/expertise? I've been trying to develop some 2D old NES like games on my own, but it's so difficult and time consuming. Have you written games before? What region of the world do you live in? I would much rather start a game company and/or project with people who I can see in person and have them sign confidentiality agreements. I wouldn't just continue this mission as a "past time," but with a much more serious and dedicated approach.

Re: RPG Development

@ 5NIPER_WOLF & Undocked Windy:
Has either one of you worked on a project like this before? How much programming experience do you have? How much experience do you have with 2D/3D modelling?

For one thing, you'll have to pick just one language to work in - using multiple languages is the easiest way for you to waste your time. Java and C# are very similar. IMHO, C# would be the better of the two though. .NET is not just used for networking, but VB is pretty much useless when it comes to writing games. My suggestion for language would be to go with C# or C++. They may annoy you, but they work well. You have to know what you're doing though.

Before you even start thinking about programming though, there's a lot of design work that needs to be done. Have you considered all the diagrams you're going to have to draw? All the psuedocode you'll have to write? The quickest way to kill your project is to dive straight into the programming.

Re: RPG Development

Well if you looked below our usernames you would see that Undocked lives in California while I live in Toronto, and we are trying to make a brand new MMORPG not really old NES type games, but someone like you would be great. I've made some stuff before but that's not important. What is, is that we work hard and work as a team. All my stuff is already trademarked and copyrighted so I really don't need written consent and stuff.

And believe me, if I could I would fly to anyone willing to work with me in a heartbeat but 2 things stand in my way. 1. is school, I can't miss that and the 2nd is money, I don't have it.

Re: RPG Development

Okay I have experience with Photoshop, Blender and CorelDRAW.
I would prefer working in C# as that's what I have most expereince.
My expertise would be managing, data systems and administration, maybe for the servers or websites, creating websites and also graphic design. Over at my end my friend has a lot of diagrams and concept art that we can further work on.

P.S. what does IMHO mean?

What level of schooling? High School? TAFE? University/College?

High School, then University. I'm in a very good technical school and I am thinking in participating in the International Baccalaureate program, I don't know if you know what that is but it's an excellent program.

P.S. What is TAFE?

Re: RPG Development

Wasn't sure if TAFE was an Australian thing or worldwide (looks like it's Aus only). It stands for Technical And Further Education. It's a middle-ground between high school and university.

So you're currently at high school, and plan to go to university?

My advice on this one would be to start small. Make a small, limited game, to test a couple of things: 1) how long will it take? 2) can you do it? I think you'll find the answers quite enlightening.

Re: RPG Development

I think our eqivilant to TAFE is MAST (Math and Science Technology)

I was planning on starting small, to test skills. I really don't know how long it will take, I don't know if I CAN do it in terms of ability but I know I have the willpower to do it.
