EA Ships Illegal Weapons.

Quote:
Electronic Arts today contacted game writers around the country asking them to return the brass knuckles they were sent as part of a promotion for Godfather II.

The representative that contacted me said that the company wanted to make sure that the brass knuckles were "properly disposed of." He declined to comment any further. Contacted by email Friday, an Electronic Arts spokesperson verified that the company is asking that all of the brass knuckles shipped out be returned.

Brass knuckles or metallic knuckles are illegal in many of the states that they were shipped to. They're also illegal in California, where EA is based.

In Colorado, possessing an illegal weapon is a class 1 misdemeanor, according to a Denver police spokeswoman. Illegal weapons are defined as a blackjack, gas gun, metallic knuckles, gravity knife, or switchblade knife.

Electronic Arts did not respond to emails seeking comment about the legality of the items they shipped and whether they faced any legal actions for shipping them across state lines.

Seems like a pretty big slip up. You'd think a big multi billion dollar company like EA would think to at least check that the weapons they are shipping all over the country might possibly be illegal.

Re: EA Ships Illegal Weapons.

The DRM in the brass knuckles would of rendered them useless anyway. It's EA's forte.

Gravity Knives
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravity_knife

A gravity knife is a knife which opens by the forces of inertia or gravity.[1] Similar to a switchblade, they are made as side folding blades and OTF blades (out-the-front or telescoping). However, instead of being spring driven, the knife needs to be manually "flipped" out of the handle.[1] Military gravity knives will lock open. Some English and civilian gravity knives do not mechanically lock open but rely on a strong friction cam surface against the blade.[2] Factory made gravity knives have various types of buttons, triggers or fulcrum levers, but are usually dual function to release the blade from both the open and closed positions.
