Re: Does gaming and listening to music help you do better?

I listen to music when playing RTS games, but not FPS's.
I find that music in FPS's drowns out other sounds such as footsteps or the sound of a weapon reloading. It's those sounds I listen out for to track down my enemies.

In RTS games the music just generally helps me relax. I usually listen to older stuff, Clapton, Zeppelin, Blue Oyster Cult etc.

Re: Does gaming and listening to music help you do better?

it can help, depends upon if you like the music or not, besides if you play the music loud enough, you cant hear your parents yelling at you to get off the computer and you can play the game a little longer.

Re: Does gaming and listening to music help you do better?

In racing games I listen to music. Not so much FPS games like L4D or COD. I find it distracting. But Metal music is what I listen to when I do listen and game. Dragonforce was made for gaming. Listening to "Through the Fire and the Flames" while playing Halo 3 is quite enjoyable.

Re: Does gaming and listening to music help you do better?

I don't listen to music while playing in game, I want to hear all the sounds

if I did listen to music it might be a game where you take more visual cues like a RTS like Supreme Commander otherwise in a game like L4D I'd die because thee are just so many sounds you need to listen for and the change in music is an indicator too

I listen to Trance/House/progressive so when it comes to listening to music, these genres don't fit in FPS so I listen to music when playing racing games like Test Drive or NFS
and yeah it helps

Re: Does gaming and listening to music help you do better?

I don't listen to music while playing. I even turn off the in-game music 90% of the time. FPS's always have the music off - like Tiber Septim said, I like to be able to hear everything, in case there's an enemy around the next corner. Same deal with RPG's. For RTS's I'll sometimes leave the in-game music on, but I'll usually turn it down low.

Cant listen to any music while playing COD4 on the xbox. I like to hear when people are trying to sneak up behind me.

I have to agree, the only exception being a game like Painkiller where it's nothing more than wholesale slaughter.

Ahhh. Thanks for reminding me, I haven't listened to Rammstein in ages.
My favourite would have to be 'Du Riechst So Gut'. I love the video for that song.

Re: Does gaming and listening to music help you do better?

"Du Riechst So Gut" means "you smell so good" some of Rammstiens songs are just silly

"Du Hast" = "you hate"

the song goes like this (i remember the lyrics doesn't mean I know the German language)
you hate
you hate me
you hate me so
you hate me so much
you hate me so much

its something like that

I like Linkd 234 that video is weird and cool with snow white and her being on drugs and abusing the seven dwarves lol

Thanks for a translation
Have you seen the video? It would explain the meaning of the song to you...

There's a wordplay. "Du hasst me" means "you hate me" indeed, but "du hast me <...> gefragt" means "you have asked me". But these two sentences are pronounced in the same way. The lyrics are really great, just find a normal translation
German is my native language

Re: Does gaming and listening to music help you do better?

first: install game

second: start game

third: find config sound and shut off the in game music.

can't stand to have music or anything else but the sounds of the game going in my headphones. the only game i play the music on is any of the NFS games, seems to help while driving 130 mph. otherwise it's music off so you can hear where the bullets are coming from before they tag you in the head.

Sometimes, but only the in-game music, usually with Command & Conquer or Gran Toruismo 3, it's not like other music distracts me or anything, I just enjoy the game's music and sound effects.

For me, I have the music on while playing NFS. It can help to get into the racing mode.

Re: Does gaming and listening to music help you do better?

Listening to music while playing FPS games can be your downfall, but if you can into the zone with some tunes it can defiantly help you own. I play FPS with the music up loud but so i can still just hear the sound effects.
