I'd like to meet your supplier! From what I've seen, 250GB SSD's aren't available from all suppliers, and they're about $1000+ when you do find them. More common are the 32GB and 64GB varieties, ranging from about $200 - $600 per drive.I'd love to have that setup though. Even just 2 or 4 of those drives in RAID would be awesome.

Re: SSD RAID Awesomeness
My bad. I was thinking of 128Gb versions. Yep the 250Gb models are $1000 to $1500. So that's easily $24000 just for storage.
I repeat. Holy expensive storage Batman! Edit: Ninja, I think the guy was running 2x HD 4870X2's in Crossfire. They didn't show it for very long though. Last edited by Tiber Septim; 03-11-2009 at 04:17 PM. |

Re: SSD RAID Awesomeness
Looks amazing. I was thinking of getting 64GB SSD. But then i realized that Steam (+ Steam games) would not fit on it.
It would be wicked quick loading speeds for games. But at the moment im happy with the speed im currently getting. TF2 loads from Desktop to map in 10secs... :D

Re: SSD RAID Awesomeness
This is tempting. Im thinking of buying a 32GB SSD and move Vista/pagefile over to it. With a max power output of 150mW on full load and 250mb/s its pretty good.
But at the moment im having trouble finding the correct SSD (In Australia). Most of them are for laptops as they state a 5v line input. Are you able to RAID the drives together?

Re: SSD RAID Awesomeness
As far as I know you can RAID them.
Staticice doesn't turn up much. There's this Intel one for ~$800 Or a 80Gb Intel one for the same price, but it is an MLC. Slower and shorter lifetime. Most of the cheaper ones are 100Mb/s read, 80Mb/s write. Last edited by Tiber Septim; 03-19-2009 at 07:40 AM. |

Re: SSD RAID Awesomeness
In a RAID-0 configuration, data (files) are spread across all drives, so when the system goes to read a file, multiple drives work together to access it, which increases speed (works the same way for writing data). A RAID-0 configuration is to a normal hard drive setup what a quad-core CPU is to a single-core.
There are also other RAID configurations, such as RAID-1. RAID-1 mirrors data across the multiple drives. Then, if one drive fails, there is at least one fully-functional backup drive at all times.
