New video cards from Nvidia

Nvidia has released 4 more video cards in there GTX line some. or more like the most confusing named line ever. it seems they like to just put letters whgere ever they feel like

lower end cards it seems like to me

highest to lowest

GTX 295
GTX 285
GTX 280
GTX 260
GTS 250 *NEW*
GT 140 *NEW*
GT 130 *NEW*
Gt 120 *NEW*

what I'm hoping is PC gaming hopefuls won't get screwed up with the card buying selection, which of course they will think a card is higher than another. I'm guessing they're all gimped versions of the GTX series

Not sure though

I only saw the cards on nvidia.com in their beta driver section. Hoping these cards won't be too gimped and people will get good performance out of them.

I was thinking of putting this in the Video Card section but it seems half and half to me.

Re: New video cards from Nvidia

GTS 250 = Old G92 core cards (aka 9800GTX)
GT 1XX = Old G9X core cards (aka 9400, 9500, 9600)

It's a very sneaky underhanded way for Nvidia to sell off old model cards. They are simply renaming them.
It's gotten so bad, Nvidia are blacklisting certain tech review sites, because they want to tell the truth about the 'new cards' but Nvidia doesn't want them to.

Nvidia Blacklisting Anantech
More NVIDIA renaming blues
There was a whole bunch of articles but I can't be bothered finding them. Google brings up a bunch of stuff about it.

Yeah, you're right, this is really bad for Nvidia PR.

Edit: Better Link
Quote:
The new parts are 55nm, just like the old. The clocks aren't different, nothing from a user perspective is different, other than the card losing 9550, an X and a +. Oh yeah, they are jacking up the price for the stupid as well.

Nvidia, however, is desperate to make this seem like something new. Sales are in the toilet, chips cancelled, and 40nm parts are looking unhealthy. Turd polishing time. Enter the marketeers, but they have a problem, some sites are, *GASP*, honest, and will print the truth.

Nvidia has this allergic reaction to the truth, and tries to change how it is presented at every opportunity.

Re: New video cards from Nvidia

No problem.
I couldn't believe it when I read it either. I've always used Nvidia.
My first GPU was a 32MB RIVA TNT 2. I've never used ATI because they have always had heat problems (earlier models) or driver problems (later models), but this whole debacle has made me seriously consider an ATI card for my next upgrade...

Re: New video cards from Nvidia

I don't know what the card was for my family's old computer but I think it was Nvidia (Riva was Nvidia?)

I was thinking about ATI but I felt that I knew more about Nvidia cards than ATI and I'd buy what I knew.

This doesn't really make me want to change to ATI but it does make me angry and I will tell people to back off buying GTS 250 or GT 100 series cards if they're upgrading from a 9800GT

Re: New video cards from Nvidia

Nvidia pulled this stunt 5 or 6 years ago so I switched to ATI. I'll never go back to Nvidia.

my first card was a S3 1 mb LOL!!! 12 years ago :P
my second was Riva TNT 2, and since I'm stuck with Nvidia, I never bought an ATI card, not that I don't like them, amd is always cheaper...

Re: New video cards from Nvidia

This made me laugh.

It's an image I got from a Bit-Tech review. It's a 9800GTX+ with GTS 250 written on it in white-out.

Origin, which series card did Nvidia do this with before? I've never heard of this before?

Re: New video cards from Nvidia

people are going to buy this card.

The only thing I can hope is that sensible online retailers like Newegg will sell it for cheaper than current 9000 series cards or not sell it at all

The GeForce4 MX series, they were nowhere near as good as the older GeForce3's and NVidia were making them out to be superior, even though MX was the budget range of the 4's.

Re: New video cards from Nvidia

Personally my first card was a Riva TNT 2. After that i upgraded to another card, but cant remember what it was. My next PC had a ATI x300 which was a budget card. Then last year i got my new PC with a HD3870 512MB.
I personally like the whole AMD ATI alliance. It can only mean good things.
ATI's pricing has always managed to keep me with them. Plus i like red

Re: New video cards from Nvidia

maybe you should try

with F@H I finish a 354 point WU in 61 minutes and it used to be around 97 minutes for the WU before overclocking

Well Nvidia won't trick me I always sound like a slightly confused customer when I shop for myself but that's because I start drooling when I see fancy video cards and nice computer equipment

MUST BUY ALL! lol

Re: New video cards from Nvidia

LOL!!!
two weeks ago my brother and I went to a PC Hardware Store, he wanted a new laptop, one second I was with him, and next second he lost me, he kept 10 minutes looking for me, finally he found me staring at a GTX 280, I just thought I'll do anything to buy this monster, so I looked at the price tag : 520 $

so I said : OH MAN!!! My Geforce 9400 GT is doing a GREAT JOB!!!
