No 'Call of Duty' without 'Rules of War'
Dad tells son he must read the Geneva Conventions — and abide by them
Evan Spencer, 13, had to read all four treaties of the Geneva Conventions before his dad would let him play "Call of Duty: World at War." Dad hopes the exercise helped his son appreciate a bit more about the realities of war. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29417231/

Re: No 'Call of Duty' without 'Rules of War'
In Far Cry 2 I shoot a patrol in the foot with a sniper rifle wait for his friend to pick him up then shoot them both in back.
2 for 1!! I wouldn't tell my son to play by the geneva conventions, I'd be more like read the conventions and you're going to read King Rat by ( forgot the author) its about soldiers in a WW2 Japanese concentration camp. I like to play evil in games, so I don't want to be a contradiction or a hypocrite. Separate life and games and if you're kids can recognize that at a very early age then you've done something good as a parent. I'm no parent but I can talk for myself that I know the difference between a video game and real life violence. Real life violence is not pleasant as anyone who's been physically bullied in life knows |

Re: No 'Call of Duty' without 'Rules of War'
Well said.
It's a small minority of people that give gamers a bad name. In my opinion, the game has little to do with people doing stupid and senseless things. It's the fact that they can't differentiate between games and life and they don't comprehend consequence. |

Re: No 'Call of Duty' without 'Rules of War'
I actually think it's a good idea. These video games are glorifying war, even if the developers didn't mean for it. Reading the main points of it (the dad didn't make him read the whole thing, did he?) would educate young people about the realities of war. Not that those Conventions really applied in WWII.
