Question about Gaming Controllers for PC

Hi, I recently got a new PC (Q6600/8800GT) and i'm trying to play some racing games. I have been trying to set up my Xbox 360 control for Rfactor, GTR 2, Live for Speed and Richard Burns Rally, but it never feels right. It's often twitchy and sometimes I can't assign the buttons properly. I have tried all the in game deadzone settings and I am getting there with Rfactor, but Live for Speed seems impossible to get working properly with the sticks and triggers.

I was wondering if a dedicated PC gaming controller would be better, or do you really need the wheel for racing sims?

Thanks for any help
Mark.

I tried that too. I guess you do need a wheel. I'll get one in a couple of years, when I get my own place. For now, I'll just stick to casual games.
